... And covers are plagiarism? Changing the lyrics would be closer to plagiarism than keeping them (mutating it so you can get the credit.) Many of those songs on that CD were blues standards. Songs that many many artists did. Were they all plagiarists? No. Because they are known standards. Are people that sing the birthday song plagiarizing? And no, they added all kindsa riffs and whatnot that were never used in the songs before.
Well, feel free to mull it over in your head. I think both Bowie and Zep are awesome, I don't really care who they may or may not have ripped off.
You forget just how connected that group is. They all fucked each other and they all did same drugs. Sable Starr (sc?) was a big groupie for that group, Bowie, Izzie, and a boat-load of others. It's one big group man.
Either way this has gone on way to long, nice pic by the way though I most def could never see Pop as a T-Rex fan that's another one I forgot to mention, just because Marc Bolan and Bowie have a very similar career path up until 1977 of course. In any case, I was just stating my opinion on such things, I know all about Sable Star and such things, I mean come one she was with Johnny Thunders and Keith Richards to say the least. Either way yes, even I'll admit everybody steals something from someone, but the reason why I chose Bowie for this particular topic is because it's awfully strange how he switched his taste in everything after coming in contact with these people, so say what you will I couldn't careless if your a fan of his or not I'm just expressing how I feel on such matters don't make a federal case out of it amongst one another, also just for whoever I talked to about this first please pay more attention I said "unless your a familiar with his music" didn't say you had to be a fan man, just move on.
didn't the beatles rip off elvis in a way(even john lennon has said this) so whats the problem? you seem to have some kinda personal problem with david bowie that goes beyond music .. even if you pretend it is about music
its not fashionable to say this..but often the better man wins. and bowie did win, dunno who the other bands are...perhaps they are better but got cast aside. or they sucked at what they created and bowie made it great
Then how can you say Bowie is the better man? The Velvet Underground is one of the best bands of all time - screw the 60s. That's equivalent to saying the most popular thing is always the best.
It's just that when the question of Bowie's influences is raised, the finger usually points very squarely at Anthony Newley. Though probably more obvious on his earlier recordings. Cue chorus of "who's Anthony Newley?" Go and ask yer grandpa,...
whats wrong with saying that?... except its not a popular idea. its objectively the best, well as close as objective as one gets
:cheers2:Finally some brainwork here......or....will the REAL Ziggy Stardust please stand up.......or....Mr. Bowie should never have been so heavily influenced by the negative side of the superfluous 80s....that is, the silly disco-duck-oriented "dance music" of that sad period!
Oh I dunno, I like some of the stuff he did in the 80's or more 80's-esque anyway. Heroes Absolute Beginner's Modern Love Ashes to Ashes China Girl Not so big a fan of Dancing in the Streets and stuff like taht though.
Let's Dance was my first introduction to his music as a child, needless to say it took me many years to shake that off and get into his music.
I know what you mean....it's tuff! It's like when some younger folk i know listened to Killer Queen by Queen for the first time while their ears where still "shocked" by Radio Gaga.....know what I mean ?!!:cheers2:
