to the guy who said he was thinking about smoking it, dont do it. not because you'll go insane, it just basically has no effect when smoked. it does taste kinda good though, im not gunna lie, and is a good additive to cut back on weed. and as for drinking it in a tea, if you really want just a taste of what datura is, and only if you really want to, and only if your really familiar with your mind, ill tell you what to do. but remember, just like white lines, dont dont dont do it do it do it. get one leaf, if its kinda big rip it in half. boil some water, enough to fill a regular size coffe mug. put the leaf in the cup, pour the hot water, not necessarily boiling water, over the leaf and let the water cool down. this is where you have to make sure your as careful and exact as possible. look at the color of the tea, to get just a taste of datura dont sip anything if the teas color came out anything darker than a light yellow-green. if it did, sip it at your own discretion, taking just sips mind you. but if you got a light colored tea dont think that means its safe to drink it all. take one small drink and just chill. see what happens and maybe take another drink. dont finish it. you might not feel anything, but this is how you find out how you react to it for future experiments. remember i definetaly dont recomend anybody do this unless you think you know whats on the up and up. i used to sip it for allergies, which is does work for, but like i said you gotta know what your doing. i never would finish it when using it for this purpose. one cup was enough to last a few days, as in i would sip a little here and there. and only of the lightest tea i could brew. on a side note, id like to relate to this i would get this same feeling when i used to do a lot of benadryl. well not like a lot a lot, just up to about 200 mgs a day spread out, sometimes more, sometimes none. (the after effects can be felt clean into the next day sometimes for me even at medicinal doses, so i would skip days when i felt it necessary.) i would get this feeling like our real life is all a dream and that no one knows this except those of us who have seen, and that we're really all dead but dont know it and have been tricked into thinking we're alive. its hard to explain but it was a feeling that made me feel depressed but at the same time the happiest ive ever been because it made me realize that nothing really matters, because really, we are all just living inside our own heads. i dont know.
this is one of those things i feel i need to try at some point in my life. i have been cultivating datura inoxia for a couple years now in my grandparents garden waiting for the right summer to experiment. out of all the bad ive heard a few good things too mostly jus harmless comedy of sitters.
it seems like a very dangerous drug, and i personally would avoid it. (i got interested once, but reading the reports made me realise the potentially of such a plant)
datura inoxia is the kind im familiar with cause its the most prominent one in my area. personally, ive never used it to trip off of, only for medicinal uses and, i guess, spiritual reasons. ive "tripped" off diphenhydramine before and thats enough for me. daturas effects are much more prolonged and intense at doses that make you trip. i dont use the plant that way, but if you are start off with small amounts and work up, but not in the course of one day. take a small set amount and no more the first time you try, then wait a week or so before trying again with a little more if it didnt work the first time. be careful, its a tool, not a toy, a powertool even at that.
:hurray: I think thats the big unfortunate of it really, this consumer driven society tends to think it can make everything "its own" like Maria Sabina with her Mushrooms, once out of the hands of those who respect it for it's designed purpose and try using it like a substitute for Ice cream :willy_nilly: , then sometimes they get offended and feel the need to demonize it when it didn't do what they wanted it to for them, if that makes sense to anyone (I hope). I mean even LSD can be a Power tool when you take an excessive dose of 50 or more hits. I will now happily sit back and wait patiently as my "Delaware Sacred Nicotina" and my D. Wrightii seeds germinate. Hoping to have something ready for Samhain. My plan, Step 1: Hold a leaf against my skin to ensure I have no major allergies to this plant. Step 2: Mix a small portion of one leaf with some natural tobacco in a 95:5 ratio favoring tobacco. ( Mabey 90:10 ) Step 3: Slowly smoke a small quantity of the mix in a quiet, natural environment condusive to medetation. We'll see how this goes. To the O.P, you mention being on a couch in the back of your head. According to many philosophies this is the right way to see things as we are not our bodies or our concious ego driven personalities. Perhaps A Dangerous Book can help you gain a little perspective on this. Not suggesting you run and embrace this full philosophy, but at least take a look into it and mabey do better at "coming to terms" with your new perspective on existance?? :cheers2:
datura and tobacco mixed is nice sometimes. but id go straight 50/50, or 75/25, the larger portion being datura. but thats because i cant smoke that much tobacco without getting sick. i think of that mix as kinda sacred cause they're related plants and their effects are like opposites of each other. one stimulating one of the acetylcholine receptors, and the other depressing the other acetylcholine receptors. they should cancel out each others negative side effects, for instance datura being an antiemetic and tobacco causing nausea. but they could also team up on you in a bad way too i suppose.
Just to let you know, you CAN'T just take a little bit. The overdose dose and the dose that causes effects are almost exactly the same. That's what's so dangerous. And a lot of the time you drink too much because it takes awhile for the effects to start. That's probably what happened to this guy. This is not a fun drug. It's very dangerous.
Yea, I was aiming for heavy on Tobacco due to my smoking Drum RYO, about a pouch a day. Thou I still need to sample the Delaware Sacred, it wont be cured by then but I'll at least have it dry. Ontop of which I haven't done any variety since 94' and this being my first with Wrightii,,, I shake my dice with care
Be careful, use more discression than you've ever used in your life, this is not a substitute for Pot. Do the skin test first and foremost to show if you do indeed have a natural allergy to the toxins present (Rub a leaf / dab a drop of juice and rub it gently on your skin to see if you develop some sort of severe rash which would indicate a strong allergy) I think MooMooMan's suggestion on the tea is an excelent idea once you know the tea wont close your throat or shut down your respiratory system (Severe allergic reaction) Good luck. My Wrightii seeds are still germinating But I've gotten a single Delaware Sacred to sprout (I think the others "soaked in" too deep when I watered.
Wow, what a time machine. So while I've yet to manage to smoke enough to go delusional as yet (Not surprising considering that my max has been about 1 tsp of dried leaf & stem smoked) I have to say the more subtle effects of it are quite interesting. But I am gradually increasing dosage in match head sized increments. Personal suggestion to those working with it, keep a dream journal handy... I'll let you figure the rest of that out. One interesting thing I've noticed is that the pith inside the larger stems smoked alone (In a very small quantity, about 1/4 tsp. ) seems to have quite a different effect than the leaves or whole stems. Whereas with the leaf and stem, the effect is somewhat of an etheric, floaty feeling and headspace, the pith is much more focused on the Pituitary area, just based on the sensation derived from smoking it alone. It's led me to wonder perhaps if the alkaloids present dont somehow trigger a flood of DMT from the pituitary gland repetitively during their presence in the system and lead to the "land of the dead" due to the other alkaloids present with the body's own natural DMT? Would love if someone had a bit more insight into this as I've yet to try DMT myself so no real basis for comparison,,,
Well, I dont think it's so amazing really being as I've gone about it very cautiously, started off with a few match heads worth mixed in with tobacco, once every week or two. Started with just leaves, once I reached a teaspoons worth I cut out the tobacco gradually, then I started the process over using stems till I reached the same teaspoon level. Now I usually just blend the two. Have yet to work with the flower or seed (Dont think the seed would be very smokable??) I'd strongly suggest a similar approach for anyone hellbent on working with this plant as we all have different body & brain chemistries with which these alkaloids may not work the same from one person to the next, so by all means be very cautious, dont take my example as any sort of proof that it's a safe thing to dive into head first, it may be the deep end of a dry pool for you. For the past month I've increased frequency of smoking to once or twice a week and plan to lay off for a month just to ensure my system processes out all the alkaloids. Hoping to find the cusp of delusion by residuals in my system and a fresh smoke mixing. I'm guessing that will have to wait till they bloom this year. One other thing I've noticed, THC will really potentiate it's effects. A few day's after having smoked, someone stayed at the Hostel and smoked me out, completely off my rock as far as imaginative concepts are concerned, far from the usual "silly stoner" stuff which runs through my mind while stoned. Of course I'd think that the result's I've seen would prove to be too tame or not pronounced enough for anyone looking for "something to get high with" which is also likely why we hear of so many using a bunch and going off their nut for a few day's. But 1/4" tsp of leaves mixed with some weed could provide some folks with enough of a taste of where it brings you. I really need to get my MMJ card,,,
there is a tribe in the amazon that drinks a datura-like plant in a tea every morning. The great ethnobotanist Richard Evan Schultes made contact with them and almost accidentally drank the tea not knowing what it was. Luckily a friend saved him by letting him know the people drink large doses of solanaceous herbs on the daily. The amount in one cup was probably good enough for their tolerance, but would have likely been an overdose for Schultes.
I used to smoke Datura and felt as though it definitely added a real component to my high, but I never went as far as to see any mild hallucinations. So what in short exactly have you experienced smoking the stems and leaves? And I also used to smoke the seeds, I believe all plant content has alkaloids.
Wow man you are brave. Finally someone. Not many people do that plant. I believe you need alot of time and space to freak out on the stuff. Alot of which I dont have. I would say a week vacation in the wilderness with plenty of supplies and the knowledge of our whereabouts to a trusted friend. I believe its 1 flower per dose. Or 10 seeds. I would not know just research knowledge not experience. I heard a potion of the seeds is a good start. I heard also you need 3 days and the freedom to have vivid visions for that long.
Well it's not been anything too intense while awake thus far, fuzzy visuals, ethereal sort of headspace where it felt as if I were having a lucid dream albeit a rather mundane / non-delusional one. The best so far was a teaspoon of leaf with 1/4 tsp of pith mixed in in which I felt as described above but sensed many entities about me sort of lurking about. Pretty much similar to Ouija board sessions and the like. Dreams on the other hand take on a whole new depth while influenced by the plant leaf, at least occasionally. I guess I'll put it this way, if you you tend to have dreams on occasion which some might deem premonitory, you may find they have a greater clarity. So yea' keep a dream journal handy. Take that for what you will but it's been my experience with it thus far. It helps explain to me what drew the Oracles of Delphi to the plant.
I wouldn't necessarily rule it out altogether, but I'd certainly think that one would want to be as thoroughly familiar with it via smoking in gradually increasing micro doses. In fact shortly after my previous post, I ate 3 seeds and smoked the tsp. Nothing really to speak of but I think my tolerance is a bit "up there" these day's. So after say a couple weeks, I'll repeat that a few times over the course of the following month, thereby keeping an eye on the possibility of a group of weak seeds getting grouped. After which, adding 3 more seeds and so forth. Or perhaps I'll switch to the tea? Or start with a couple match head sized doses from the rootstock mixed with tobacco filler. Whichever it may be, I'll use the same precautions, starting very small and working up till "I can just about feel getting somewhere".
