Dating Outside Of Your Race...Could You???

I've been with women of various ethnic backgrounds...Asian, black, white, jewish... I'm mixed myself, anyways...African and Portuguese background.


Yeah, the word "race" is problematic because it's based on the false notion that race is a biological phenomenon, when in fact it is a social convention. There is as much DNA variety between two members of the same "race" as there is between members of two different "races". The phenotypical traits we associate with race are purely arbitrary and culturally learned. Much like stereotypes associated with race are culturally learned.

That being said, I also think the "we are all human" stuff is a bit fluffy. Fact is, people derive from different backgrounds. I therefore favor the word ethnicity.

Prejudice will always be around. What are you supposed to do? It would be interesting to hear from people like clementinexo or hippychickmommny who answered "No" in the poll. Why not?

I do not have any problem dating out of my race. I used to but no longer do. Some of the most attractive guys I have dated have been italian or hispanic. There's an Egyptian guy I have been crushing on lately at the juice bar.

 

I would and I am right now. In fact I'm going to be marrying him. Been together for 6 years haven't had any problems besides his mom. But she just plain old don't like me so she'll find any excuse to get rid of me. lol So, I don't even count her.

Yeah, I heard that before. But WILL love call? It's sort of like women who say money and status don't matter to them so long as the guy has a good job that isn't in the Sanitation Department.

I tend to be skeptical of overly cute and ideological statements. There are plenty of ultra-liberals out there who won't ever go out with anyone who isn't white and yet pay lip-service to being colorblind day in day out.

 

I can't imagine anything more exciting than 'dating' a handsome African-American. The trouble is where I am there aren't that many ebony skinned men around. Still, I'll keep searching and hoping. Marrying and having children with someone like that would come with it's own unique challenges but true love would overcome them all I think. Having said that, I'm not looking for true love.

 

Another thought:

I find most white women annoying. Not sure if it's just US women or what. I haven't dated a white chick in 10 years or more.

 

I am mixed race (European/Asian) my kids are mixed race. They have my mix and on dad's side Afro-caribbean, chinese and Asian. If we all looked at our genetic heritage apart from the immediate that we know about, we'd find that most of us were all mixed race any way.

It's not what a person looks like. It's what they bring to the party that counts.

I wouldn't go as far as all that. It seems to me there is a danger of making white people into an undifferentiated category as well.

I've been in contact with a lot of white liberals who favor non-whites, and, as a non-white, it bothers me. I think it's prejudice in reverse, nothing else. When white liberals treat me like a superstar because I'm of african descent, it makes me feel fetishized, and objectified. Putting me on a pedestal is still a denial of my humanity: my flaws, idyosicrasies, etc. A pressure to be super-human, super-hip, super-interesting develops. But I don't want to be super- anything. I want to be simply interesting, much in the same way that white people can be interesting.

Are there annoying white women? I would think so. Are there interesting white women?

I don't date races, i date people...

 

I was married to a Yugosalav man....it was a disaster....his family were so overpowering and religious it would never have worked...

Whereas I would embrace peoples of all nationalities, being married to someone from a different culture can be very challenging....

They were so "down" on the women....I found that hard....

 

I would of course date someone outside of the same race as me, how rediculous not to. we are all people!
you cant help who you are attracted to. it happens.
I have my preferences of course, and there are of course some types of people id never see myself dating.

If I wasn't happily married, I could certainly date someone outside my race. My wife and I are friends with an older black couple. She is gorgeous If we both weren't married, I'd certainly approach her if the opportunity presented itself.

 

Would I like to date an English woman?

I like all races, but every individual is not the same.
It comes down to that. Even an individual may be right for a time and then
dissapoint you, and that is why there are so many divorces.
