The whole incel community is unsettling. I mean, there have always been angry disgruntled virgins, but the internet has really given the group an identity and a platform. Dangerous. Jordan Peterson has sparked some interesting discourse on the incels. Anyone read any of it?

 

I was curious so I looked it up but the only thing I can find are articles written about him suggesting "enforced monogamy" in an interview. Is that what you mean?

I've creeped on incel message boards a couple of times (totally toxic and disturbing, do not recommend) and enforced monogamy seems to be a pretty common desire for them. A lot of them want to return to the days when women were considered property

As a woman i've always felt pretty good about living in American society. There are dangers out there but they always seemed like isolated issues. But this incel stuff disturbs me on a deep level, makes me realize how vulnerable women actually are, even in an equal and free society .

 

I would become incel but I can't tell if I hate women any more than I hate men.

Someone accused me of being incel because I made a joke about thinking women were shapeshifters who knew the secret to life but intentionally took men to the grave. This was a few weeks ago and the first I'd heard of it. I guess people are so stupid now that something incredibly dumb doesn't even seem like a joke anymore.

I'd never heard of this 'incel' thing until reading this thread. I Googled it and apparently there is one of them running for Congress out of Virginia. Nathan Larson, who is currently living with his parents, believes in "instituting a patriarchal system, with women under the authority of men; he supports abolishing age restrictions for marriage and laws against marital rape; he believes that white supremacy is a “system that works,” that Hitler was a “good thing for Germany,” and that incest should be legalized, at least in the context of marriage." Although I feel that this whole Incel MGTOW movement is fostering a very toxic mindset to a lot of young men. I can sympathize with male incels who haven't been taught the right way on how to date, and have been negatively influenced by the media/entertainment industry, as well as 3rd wave feminism trivializing the definition of rape and sexual harassment. For example, 20% of millennial now believe it's considered sexual harassment to ask a woman out for drinks. And there's plenty who believe that sexual encounters after any amount of alcohol touches a woman's lips, is considered rape.

For this reason, there's lots of young men who are worried about even trying pursue a relationship with any woman he likes. The risk of legal trouble and destroying of his ego and reputation might not be worth it. Asking a woman out can be hard enough without having to worry about that kind of pointless shit.

It also doesn't help how there are so many movies out there where the pretty girl who's treated like crap by her handsome badboy of a boyfriend, ditches him and goes for the protagonist guy (who also happens to be complete milquetoast) in the end because he's nice to her. This never happens.

Due to societal pressures, propaganda, and misinformation out there. This new generation will be seeing a lot more single women growing up to be childless crazy cat ladies, and more psychotic incel dudes who believe they are entitled to fuck any woman they want

 

I agree with the gist of this, basically I doubt I'd ever defend the movement but I understand why it's come about.

On the ladies side, and all millenials for that matter, just as simple as freakin house prices or child care costs nowadays. more young women staying childless for longer because Have a kid with a guy, you cant work for at least 5 years or pay half your income on child care if you do, minimum of 200 pounds a week for some shitty 1 bedroom flat in London. When the average net income for 20 somethings is 288 pounds a week. Try live off one income and 2/3 of that goes towards rent
