nah nothin special today...just hangin out. ate the small amount of mushies i had left over from the weekend, feelin good

Im making lasagna.

I dont know what I'm doing for mine but the other day my boyfriend asked me if I had anything planned for mine told him no and then he said he knew what we could do didnt tell me what but i'm down whatever it is

 

i have a big roll of ground beef, so i will make meatballs, cook them and freeze them in ziplocs for easy meals later. depending on how much beef i have left after that might make burgers to freeze, or just brown off the rest and bag that up too. i love to buy ground beef in large amounts and cook it all at once. it makes taco night, beefy mac and cheese, sloppy joes, etc so much easier to throw together. when i get my hands on a ham and a turket this year i will do the same thing... cook it off, break it down into a couple of meals size chunks, and freeze them up. this year i plan to take the meat off the bone where the turkey is concerned though. and i use the turkey carcass to make stock, and i freeze that too, for soups and dumplings. might make a ham stock this year, but i usually just use that right away for split pea soup. mmmm, nom nommy food season.

 

motherslove, every time you post about food it makes me want to be fed by you. once you get some land, let me know if you need fenceposts dug, barbwire strung, gardens tilled, lawns mowed, whatever. as long as you feed me i'll do work for ya

i love to feed people, especially when they help me get stuff done. food is not just vital for survival, its symbolic. buy rolls, or spend the time (which isnt much) making them from scratch, without all the preservatives. cinnamon raisin bread is another great example. if you buy it, its usually somewhere between $6 and $8 for a half-length loaf. the expense makes you enjoy it less, one slice instead of 2, and the slices are usually too thin to make french toast out of. yet if you can make it yourself, you get better size loaves, you can make thicker slices, you can change up the fillings (i made one with homemade cherry jam swirled in it) and when you run out, you can make more, for a hell of a lot less than you can buy it at the store. everyone should be able to do these things, i am always surprised when people say they dont know how i do it. they act like putting ingredients together is just too complicated. its not, it just takes a little practice to get the skills. im teaching hubby how to cook, and he does pretty good, but he used to be a short order cook, so his skill set is limited. and he is messy, because theres no busser/ dishwasher wiping up behind him. its the kids these days im really worried about, i dont know what they are going to do when they reach adulthood. or when TSHTF and there are no more boxed convenience foods. starve i guess. not me. i like to eat.
