Absolutely AMAZING band, Ghost. Their cover of The Beatles - Here Comes The Sun, they make it in to some pretty dark sounding psych!

German Oaks album was pretty dark. Recorded in an old bunker. It was'nt pro Nazi but with some of the song titles it was easy to see how it could have been thought to have been.

As for older stuff King Crimson and Van Der Graf Generator are both worth a listen


Another modern band with a cool retro vibe is Monster Magnet

 

Various songs on "Piper At The Gates Of Dawn" by Pink Floyd. Syd was a genius.

 

This is what I was going to post anyway. I only discovered this wonderful album recently and I can attest that it is quite the listen. Darker than most things under the banner of 'rock' or 'metal.'

I would also throw in Swans. While technically not a 'psychedelic' band, I would consider their later albums to be such. Their live shows are beyond words.
