IF Jesus created us ALL in HIS image and likeness, then SEXUALITY means NOTHING.

It is the KIND of person you are, and how you live your life, with decency, compassion, humility, and honesty that IS the important factor here......'nuff said..................

Jesus didn't do that - God did.

I stand corrected on this one!

In any event, that we were created in GOD'S image still speaks many volumes.........:)

Except, it's been postulated and said that we created God in our own image - and the same for Jesus. You wanna mess with a holy roller? Hit 'em with this one.

Probably going to piss off a lot of people but as I've said before, I'm 72 and don't give a rat's ass.

I'm a strong believer in the Bible, organized religion not so much. I try to read the Bible every day but don't succeed. I'm not perfect, but who is. I try to interpret it for myself. If I have a problem understanding it. I will read what other people have said about it. Maybe talk to several of the pastors I know. We have 3 pastors at my church. None of them are hell fire and damnantion. They all work hard at explaining God's word and how it applies to our lives. They don't talk about any one sin in particular but just that we all have sin in our lives.

God is a spirit. When he created humans, He gave them a soul. That's what separates us from all the other living creatures. He created us in His image.

I believe in evolution. 1 Corinthians 14:33 reads "God is not the author of confusion, but of peace ... This is not just about what the writer of Corinthians was addressing but about everything God does. If evolution did not occur, then why is there evidence of it. That would only cause confusion. In 1931a paper by Georges LemaƮtre, a Belgian cosmologist and Catholic priest put forth the theory of the big bang. Who would have thought that a priest would come up with this.

In every endeavor there is about 3 to 5 percent of the people involved who should not be. These are the trouble makers. I taught science, physics and chemistry mostly, in 3 very different high schools. The first was in a rural district where the students were 99 percent white. Next was a suburban school where it was a third white, a third black and a third hispanic. The last was in a suburban school that was 99 percent black. In each school the was about 3 to 5 percent of the students who should not have been there. They caused over 95 percent of the problems. Whether it was fighting, stealing, vandalism or anything else, they were usually the cause.

It's the same for religion, politics, sports, business and everything else.

I live in St. Louis county and Cori Bush is my representative in congress. One of the main reasons she was elected was she was a face and voice for Black Lives Matter. I agree that they do, the same as all lives matter. She was very vocal in the protests over the death of Michael Brown. In the almost 4 years she has been in office, she has done almost nothing to stop the killings in her district. An average of almost 200 people a year are murdered in the greater St. Louis area, mostly in her district and mostly black. I'm extremely glad that she lost the primary to Wesley Bell. Hopefully he can do something to stop the killings.

Alright, all y'all can piss, moan and complain now.

We are told and expected to take religion on faith, that what it says is the truth and the only allowable truth. I've read so many things over the years about why religion exists and the many questions regarding our need for it to exist; has religion had it day and there's no need for it any longer? I've seen holy rollers get hit with those two things and have gotten their heads handed to them because they cannot answer the questions or really defend their believed position.

This kind of thing is exactly why they say that you should never talk about religion with someone...

    Agreed.

Sex, politics, and religion are three subjects I will not even discuss with members of my own family; these days, if it is at all possible, it is a smart move to try to steer clear of discussing said topics UNLESS you know the other party shares your views.

Yep, it can get pretty ugly, in some instances......best play it safe and find something else less "volatile" to discuss.............

Yeah, screw playing it safe. It really becomes a question of whether or not can you have a grown-up conversation without losing your shit over opposing views. It's one of the main reasons why so many people get in trouble via sex because no one wants to sit them down, when they're young, and not feed them that birds and bees nonsense or the stork -- or the milkman -- bringing babies.

Religion is deemed to be off-limits because you do not ever fuck with that which someone believes, and politics is its own kind of religion.

I guess call me Don Quixote, for my penchant for tilting at windmills. (Although my faithful Rocinante grows weary of it!)

I usually try to bring up religion or politics in an attempt to create civil, nuanced debate.

    As if!

    And...

I've heard this somewhere, so I can't claim it:

Spirituality is a personal relationship with the divine. Religion is crowd control.

Right here the poster touches on an oxymoronic belief. One is he says he's not perfect. But, according to holy rollers, God is. So if God is perfect how did he fuck up and create imperfect humans? Next is the image statement. When I invent something I draw it out as in make an image. HR's, and other believers, seem to think humans are made like God. How pompous and egotistical is that? Third, God is always referred to a a male. He created, he said, he walked, he, he, he. But, according to the Bible, God is agender meaning God is neither a man nor a woman. How can God be a he then?

I recommend the video God's Not Angry by Robert Bell, and the book God, a human history by Reza Aslan.

In the former, a Christian pastor sets out to prove there's a benign supreme being watching us, by tracking changing human views of God over our existence.

In the latter, the author sets out to do basically the same.

Instead, what happens is the both produce what I can only consider as the most convincing arguments ever that humans created God (all of 'em, actually) in our own image.

    Verry interesting.

For my part, I happily admit I do not know. I hope, for example, that I'll see my wife again, but I honestly doubt I will.

But here's another thing to consider. The Christian Bible was written over centuries, by many different authors. And edited, rewritten, and "cleaned up" by many more. It was written in several different languages. And translated repeatedly. Most of its parts were never intended to be read literally.

I'm surprised we don't have an even less accurate view of it than we do.

I'd also recommend The Bible, a biography, by Karen Armstrong.
