The DEA, and indeed any federal regulatory agency, should have to get congressional approval before taking any action on it's own. I don't recall voting for any DEA agents... [IMG]

Agree, can't stand pot and dirty hippies are on the very top on my shit list, but banning pot? lol really!? Any substance can be abused and being a heavy drinker, don't get me started on the adverse affects of my vice, not only physically but socially, are FAR more damaging to society. Kratom though, there must be a lot more to this plants than I've read about. Even the assholes on ebaums say it's not that big a deal. Maybe big pharma knows something more to this?

    STUPID, STUPID, STUPID.

Kratom has radically transformed my life, basically curing my IBS and social anxiety. I've been eating it daily for a few years now. I have noticed ZERO negative effects from it. The odd times I want to take a break from it, I just wean down from my daily dose over the span of a few days and can then stop it for arbitrarily long.

I eat ~2.5g in the morning to slow down my gut motility for the day and get a very sober boost to my mood. If I've got a long night ahead of me I might eat a second dose of ~1.5g in the late afternoon as an energy boost.

It is cutting into naloxone profits for one. It has proven very effective at keeping heroin addicts off heroin and is mild as well as stimulating so it allows them to live productive lives.

The official problem seems to be the number of poison control calls - 600 or so in the last 5 or 6 years, which really isn't that many. From what I know about kratom, I assume the problem is the nausea it can induce...which really isn't a bad thing as the nausea keeps one from overimbibing.

I've tried kratom about 4 times, it is extremely mild but does create a nice sense of well being. It is a very effective pain killer and it also worked wonders for my anxiety. But why allow someone to self medicate when they can just get addicted to opiates and benzos instead!

That's the plan anyway. My mother, bless her heart, is up there in age and has several health issues. She pops vicodin like candy which makes no sense to me, she's as hippy as they come. She tells me that nothing she's tried helps the back, leg pain (giambre syndrome/spell?) of an illness that was treated years ago. I keep telling her it's age related problems, but she won't listen. If a mild plant could ease her pain, I'd take the risk of growing that shit in MY back yard. Bias reasoning, maybe.

Interesting. It sort of looks like Poke Sallet (like the Elvis song).

guillain-barre? my mom had that years ago too. luckily, she had a pretty full recovery, although she does still get some numbness in her extremities.

if it is the same thing, i think you're the first person i've come across who also knows someone who had it. they said it's extremely rare.

Looked that up and it's more than likely what I'm talking about. My spelling is horrible. I thought she was cured, but in these past few years, my mom's had terrible leg and back conditions. Just looking at her have to use a stroller is uncomfortable. Can't tell if the pain pills are masking the onset of old age, or if she's really in that much pain. Half tempted to stick a straw into an ounce of Krarom, hold her down on the couch and blow it upper nose. :D

It cures IBS and Social anxiety, that sounds unlikely

More likely you made other life changes that coincided with this

Bacterial or viral infection that somehow causes the bodies immune system to start attack the nerves on the outside of the brain and the spinal cord, but only that area. 5 subtypes of the disease which seem to be dependant on the type of linked infection, the persons race, or gender

Humans early on mixed with Neanderathals (Europe), Denosivans (Asia), and this year there was found to be a third hominind species that mixed with humans in the south pacific

The nasty effects of Zika seem to run along the same lines as Guillain–Barré. In that there seems to be a link between leftover DNA from whichever of those three hominid species you have which determines whether or not which type of Guillain–Barré you can or cant get, your body doesnt code certain proteins properly to protect those nerves.

White people dont get the Chinese Paralytic version, while only those of neanderthal descent get others, only those of european descent are susceptable to microcephaly with zika

Very likely it can be a combination of things and not just the kratom. I would assume that is why he included the word basically :p ;)

Most importantly though he is pretty sure (by years of experience) that it doesn't have negative effects (at least on him) at all. On the contrary. It seemed to have helped him.

There are no products easily available to slow gut motility that do not either require a prescription, or come with a galaxy of major side effects, or both. Eating kratom in the morning stimulates a single bowel movement (ala Coffee) and then slows my intestines down for the rest of the day, allowing me to be much more effective in society.

Yes, IBS is one of those fuzzy ones that points to the whole field of psychiatry getting it wrong.

Those neuroendocrine systems are highly complex and have evolved over eons, you dont go fucking around with the hypothalamus in particular

Prescribe medication to solve one problem at one point in time and it will screw up that balance of the whole system which leads to a bunch of other problems at another point in time

Did you have social anxiety when you were younger and were you prescribed anything for it?

I want to stress (pun intended) I am not doubting you when you say kratom has some positive effects, or I dont share the OP's thoughts that the DEAs actions are a little WTF...very curious, especially considering you all just pretty much legalized marijuana

Just saying, shits all too complex for just one single solution

does anyone else think that banning things for seemingly no other reasons except principally because "people like it" is antisocial?
