Yah I know very little about grateful dead family and all that, Sounds like that community is in bad shape though.
Most of "GDF" have absolutely no sight of the old ways of using psychedelics. Seems they just use them for money and to get fucked up. I cant even trip with some of these "international deadheads" because they are just oozing with negativity and wonder why no one wants to hang out with them or let them stay in their house. They are a disgrace to the Grateful Dead. This is only from my PERSONAL first hand experience. I have met some of them who are good and true but most that I have encountered are not.
I don't know diddly about the culture. I got introduced to shrooms a few years ago and since then met two other people I've tripped with. That's as deep into the culture as I care to be. It's a pretty small corner of my life actually. An interesting one... I just stumbled across here researching datura and became a forum junkie.
I have zero contact with any "psychedelic culture" outside of these forums. The people I know in real life who use psychedelics are all pretty dysfunctional . . . high school dropouts who you wouldn't trust with a penny and who abuse the shit out of every possible substance.
I personally prefer that the "psychedelic culture" stay low key and out of the spotlight. After 40 years of restrictions psychedelics are once again being studied for the beneficial uses that can be had with them. You guys already know about the various groups, MAPS for instance, that are slowly making headway in legitimate research. The LAST thing needed at this point is some loudmouth LSD evangelist like Leary. Leary almost single handedly brought all legit research to a halt and was probably 80% responsible for LSD being declared illegal by doing things the way he did. I would hope those who want to see psychedelics be treated by mainstream science in the manner they deserve understand that. Leary was brilliant, but an asshole. !!PB being a dick alert !! I also don't understand the attitude some here at HF have regarding psychedelics in regards to respecting the substance and learning from them, etc, etc, then I read in the psychedelic bump thread the ridiculous frequency that some members use these substances. Sorry, but I'm not seeing the respect I hear vaunted concerning them with the amount and frequency of use. In my mind some of you guys border on plain abuse of these substances. I benefit the most from them by infrequent use rather than daily/weekly/monthly use. I have had in my past also abused psyches, so I fully get it with frequent use. As I have gotten older, I also find the nature and quality of psychedelic experience has also matured for me. Much deeper and more personal experiences than when I was younger. It's hard to explain really, especially to an audience half my age. I don't mean that in a condescending way, just that life experience brings with it new attitudes and perspectives that directly play a big part in the psychedelic experience. So as far as a psychedelic revolution or culture, I would rather it remain under the radar for now and not fuck-up the legitimate research that has been a long hard struggle to get started back up.
That's why I do my drug of choice seasonally, about once or twice a year. Fasting and then finally indulging is great
PB: I fall under your umbrella of abuse particularly the second half of this year but I don't smoke weed or drink so I think I do show respect in that sense. (I guess my mephedrone use can be considered a bit dubious.) Anyways I do agree with you that I perhaps have over indulged with psychedelics in the sense I used them frequently but most of those trips have involved me doing something, so its not like I'm getting stoned all day long in front of the tv or getting shitface plastered on booze. I've often been working on music, going to shows, doing stuff with friends, working on personal growth, etc. I have found many of these experiences beneficial as well so you think frequency of use should be the determining factor on whether its abuse? Ohsodreadful:what's your doc?
The only time I use psychedelics in a group setting is in my shamanic groups, but it isnt just about the substance, we do way more, drumming meditation, and most of the time, we dont use them but once or twice a year. I prefer to do most of the psychedelics by myself, so I can write down my experiences, and breathe listen to music, drum, or just learn something new. I am not much into the rave scene anymore, when I was 18/19 I was, but I feel lately it has gone downhill and it isnt much of my crowd. Psychedelics make me realize hwo much so many groups that do them in a group, mess up big time. and I prefer to do it with respect. and not do them that often either.
Karina and I took ecstasy once at her house and we did some drumming was a very amazing experience. I kind of want a djembae but its one of those things that I know would not be put to much use very often. I could see drumming meditation being pretty amazing in a group.
It is very amazing in a group, and with ayahuasca or iboga used, it can be a life changing experience. Drumming can bring you to an higher state of consciousness and I truly think it is an amazing thing. Even drumming by itself has given me some amazing experiences.
I think its pretty funny how some users on this forum, havent had experience with psychedelics beyond personal consumption.
what are your ideas of other ways to experience them? I'm assuming you mean doing anything at all on them besides sitting in front of a computer. Or do you mean something more ritualistic/ceremonial?
lol i passed through jersey a few weeks ago and seriously thought I was about to be robbed when the guy came up to my car to pump my gas.
*cough* oregon too *cough* ...its an aggressive maneuvre for a civilian to reach for a pump in that state last I drove through. Anyways, pr0ne, I'm not so sure I get you on the funny part. Like, ha ha, that's funny, or you think there is something funny about these people... Are they here just to make you laugh? :biggrinjester: I would just be humbled to know may have once been someone who had a full page sheet and meticulously individually cut each one. Carefully wrapping it, and calculatedly be wishing that hundreds of people on a particular holidate were having a life-making time. A small cog in a wonderful machine. Now, light? On whom? Bless the pumper who has contentment and serenity in a life of service to others, how shallow exactly is it to dimensional-ize people by your glance assumption of their career occupation? Society cannot all be a culture of chefs, true? We must have artisans and craft workers as well their patrons to have an ever so sophisticated society... to live beyond nomadic hunter gathers who envy the learned farmers and shepherds. Or maybe you'd portray being in another colour? Wholethingexistentially speaking I mean, brother. Don't get me wrong, I wish there was an overgrown underground economy depressed with stockpiles of kilograms of lsd, and whatnot still, too, kids. So, who's gonna do it next? Double dog dare ya!:2thumbsup:
