Ok well I like older jam bands like The Grateful Dead and Allman Brothers Live I've seen: Allman Brothers Dave Matthews Band Sound Tribe Sector 9 Lotus I think those last 2 count... I don't like what I've heard of phish, I don't really care to see these dilapidated incarnations of The Grateful Dead with the few actual members really up there in age. I don't even really know what else is going on into the jamband scene. I've seen Mars Volta twice I guess they are kinda jam bandish.
I saw STS9 back in 2008 at Langerado for the first time ever on more acid than anyone should ever eat and it was single handedly (is that even a word?) the most amazing intense Psychedelic groundbreaking earth shattering moment of my life. FUCK!1
Yah seeing them on LSD mustve been something, I saw them on fucking coke... I don't know where my head was at the time.
i saw sts9 and lotus play a show over the summer and had a wonderful time rollin and dancin the whole night and yes they are most certainly considered jam bands
I made a thread about Bob's dissipation, but you know I'll always want to go see the 4!! remaining members of the grateful dead, they all still do amazing what they are known for. As a big dead lover, I care much. And that's whatever about Phish, they do some ridic psychedelia intensity so I don't care that they are so ragged on.
I think it's in top shape People are getting greedy though, everything is so expensive. There's still a lot of love between the trippers though, and that's all that matters
Oh yeah and in England people who trip no matter what they are, hippie, goth, raver, rude boy or whatever, they mix with everyone better and the people who trip are into a bit of everything. You get rude boys at festivals and hippies at jungle raves. I saw this sixty year-old chap at a rave once, tie-dye and all. He was shackin' out like Jesus man. Anywho, yeah I'd say if you use them then you will be multi-cultured instead of just being one. But isn't that how it's always been?
Oh geez thinking about some of the freaks I've seen in San Francisco at raves. I saw this one dude decked out in like no shirt and chains across his chest, bald head and like boots and stuff, reminiscent of that techno Viking except not as intimidating physically but seemed more mentally unstable. He was shuffling around the edges of the dancefloor always facing towards the outside of the floor for literally 2 hours straight. He took short breaks from the shuffling and would like examine each corner of the dancefloor???
Many different subcultures and countercultures use psychedelics in America, but even they know they're doing something a little hippy.
Thought this would be relevant reading...http://www.erowid.org/psychoactives/research_chems/research_chems_article2.shtml
Thanks for posting that! one of the interesting things that stuck out to me since the natural vs. Synthetic argument is brought up often was the part about herbal psychoactives finding their way into synthetics and synthetics finding their way into naturals. (e.g. Spice) It should be interesting if some of the newer really potent psychedelics like 25c-nbome or whatever that are active in micrograms, catch on and what kind of problems may possibly arise from these potent psychs.
Whats with people trying to use psychedelics for control? Just like the governement, even if you THINK that your ideas are "right" doesnt mean that is so for everyone, and trying to force them into thinking a certain way is just all wrong wrong wrong. This is why I am not on tour, this is why I have such a distaste for the current psychedelic culture. I heard the term "psychedelic war" way too many times on current tours. Come on guys.... "psychedelic WAR"? People seem to be going crazy and becoming exactly what they are against.
Perhaps explaining further might help your point but essentially what Timothy Leary was doing was asking people to think in a certain way. Pushing beliefs/ideas onto others is inevitable as another poster mentioned with any type of activity that people find interesting and has different experiences levels. Thats been happening since the inception of the counter culture. Im not sure what you mean by on tour and I've not heard the term 'pSychedelic War' used so I don't know the context (but psychedelic war does sound bordering on an oxymoron) but there needs to be some sort of cohesivesness or structure/legitimatcy around psychedelic culture otherwise there is really no point in bitching about their illegality status or even viewing them as anything beyond intoxication. That article chris posted seems to point thats the direction the RC scene is at with jwh-018 and mephedrone.
^^^the RC scene in general has went the way of synthetic beta ketones like mephedrone, methylone, etc and cannabinoids like the JWHs...but there are still a lot of people that have only tried less "popular" RCs, at least when it comes to media attention. and then there are still plenty of people that will only touch the classic psychedelics, so "phychedelic culture" is more than RC culture. that was obvious though
Im not going to get into detail, but I seen some fucked up shit. Deadheads dosing kids really high and forcing them to watch "Punky Brewster"
So many in GDF, plain and simple, are just fucking assholes and liars. One guy with a dog at fest this summer said they caught a guy selling fake doses. They kidnapped him, tied him to a chair, and fed him a sheet. Pshhh.. okayyy.
I dont doubt that at all. Sure, some are true, but most that I have met are just straight up rank deceivers. They play dirty, and hide behind the whole "family" thing and see all others who are not "family" as "nothing". If Jerry was still alive he would probably have another heart attack. When in reality we are all family, and I do not want to have any thing to do with an "elite" cult.
