Every year on this holiday, people get together to dress up in the attire of other cultures that they don't belong to. Appropriating the culture of people of color is wrong, if not racist. For example, if you're not an indian, you cannot and must not dress up as a native american. If you're not hispanic, dressing up as a mariachi is racist. If you're not asian, you better not dress in a kimono. This is oppression. If you're not Kekistani, well you can't dress like us either. Be woke this Halloween. Don't oppress marginalized people by dressing as their stereotypes.
Too late, that's what I'm dressing like this year. I was thinking of a GoT character but a vamp is easier.
Depends on the context of the costume. Like head dress for Native Americans no way that is something you earn form a tribe. Just want to a "ninja" or something the Japanese will not mind. Also I hate the term "woke" and wonder who started it. Nothing against OP.
And If your white you can't dress up as a black person, and If your black you can't dress up as a native american, well I take that back this chick is hot ... ??
well you know, the real day we ought to be doing that kind of stuff was last month at the fall equinox. and you could always 'dress up' as a member of some completely imaginary and/or extraterrestrial species. would still be a kind of cultural expropriation because in many traditional cultures that was the day to morn everyone who had died during the year. but anyway, there are also some cultures where its kind of the cool thing to do, to invite all your family's ghosts to a big party. the whole 'all saints day' thing was a cultural expropriation by christianity, as many of its 'holy' days are. speaking of which, october being the tenth month, which december would have been before julius and augustine were added to the calander, and being not long past harvest time, october 25 would be by far the most logical day to celebrate the birth of that guy who came to be called christ. instead of what is now december, which was mithra's birthday. oh and lets see, i think the celts hung something from trees somewhere around that time. like maybe kings who had lived more then a year or something like that.
Whether your trolling the fad of people that copout to this, or you agree with everything you just posted. Please shut the fuck up. Both online and offline.
quite a few of us, in one sense or another really. were one thing or another, or simply souls of other worldly origin. this is something seperate though. diversity of self perception is a good and positive thing. by comparison with dominant christothemic 'western' culture, to be 'not quite human' is something to be very proud of.
Cultural appropriation is fucking bullshit! How did political correctness get so horribly wrong? Fucking delusional victim-privileging hypersensitive SJW snowflake hypocrites. "Oh how dare a little white girl dress like Pocahontas". This snot nose crybaby bullshit was actually on the Canadian ''''news"" this morning... Is this what being 'liberal' is now? FUCK OFF!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vh7c7PSVubE
This thread reminds me of the time my friend needed a last minute costume idea so I put brown foundation and a fake mustache on him and popped a sombrero on his head That was a fun Halloween. That was...14 years ago dear fucking god kill me now I'm getting old People didnt worry so much about such things back then
Now, I disagree... When you stand up for something that is right, whether it is convenient or not, that's a good thing! People shouldn't dress up like that. While this complicates Halloween, I think it teaches us an important lesson, and they should start talking about it in schools too. This would be a good way for parents to learn with their children about cultural appropriation. I didn't watch your video. Cultural appropriation isn't a myth to me.
The whole thing about cultural appropriation encourages the idea of segregation and division. It's no wonder the regressives propogate this idea. There's a lot we can learn from other cultures by sharing traditions and ideas. Be it clothing, music, fashion, architecture, cuisine, technology, medicine, entertainment, and more. Of course you didn't watch the video. Just hide in your own echchamber from opinions you don't like.
I don't think you have a clue how to respect other people's way of life. It's actuly very disrespectful to wear certain items unless you are blessed to do so. You are talking about cultures MUCH older then America. It's just polite to honor their wishes. Sorry if you think that is somehow unfair to you as a white man. Each feather on a head dress has a meaning and that meaning is not a costume. I guess I am more sensitive because I lived with a Native American for a while, a cool one who did not get super offended but he still taught me a lot.
I think the OP is just messing around with a satire poster. There were lots of "My culture is not a costume" posters all over the local community college where I took an accounting class last year. I looked up Kekistan; it's a fictional country that was invented by Sargon and 4Chan to make fun of social justice warriors. Psymon does bring up a point with the Pepe the frog parody.
They are nice people how you can not hear what they are saying? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=frX69E9pkf8
