Expect a host of executions in the coming months in Afghanistan due to the stupidity and incompetence of F.C.O. staff !!! Foreign Office staff left details of Afghans at British Embassy for Taliban to find Ellen Manning 27 August 2021, 8:38 am Foreign Office staff reportedly left sensitive documents with details of Afghan employees for the Taliban to find. (AFP) The UK's Foreign Office staff left sensitive documents containing the contact details of Afghans who had been working for them at the British Embassy in Kabul, risking them being found by the Taliban, it has been reported. The Times reported that the paperwork, which should have been shredded so Afghans at risk of reprisals couldn't be tracked down, was found left at the compound which was evacuated on 15 August and has now been seized by the Taliban. The newspaper's own reporter described finding papers identifying seven Afghans, as well as CVs of locals who had applied for jobs, including a 33-year-old who had applied for an interpreter's job and the embassy's 30-year-old cook and housekeeper. Three families whose details were left behind have now been rescued and taken to safety, the Foreign Office has said. Watch: Documents left at British embassy in Kabul The Times said it had made phone calls to numbers on the documents, revealing that some Afghan employees and their families had been left stranded, with one man reportedly begging: "Please don’t leave us behind". The newspaper reported that it had passed details of the missing staff to the Foreign Office, prompting the rescue of three families, but the fate of least two job people who had applied for jobs as interpreters remained unknown. The Foreign Office told The Times: "During the drawdown of our embassy every effort was made to destroy sensitive material." The report will add to criticism of the Foreign Office already came under fire for its handling of the crisis in Afghanistan. Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab was criticised for going on holiday despite the escalating situation in the country in recent weeks. He returned on 15 August. Tom Tugendhat, chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee shared The Times story on Twitter, writing: "How @FCDOGovUK handled this crisis will be the subject of a coming @CommonsForeign inquiry. The evidence is already coming in." It was also suggested that information on Afghans who had helped US forces by working with them has also been left behind in the form of biometric data that has now been seized by the Taliban. Plymouth MP Johnny Mercer, a former British Army officer, shared a video on Twitter outlining equipment that had been left by the US and now seized by the Taliban, writing: "This will stop you in your tracks. Unbelievable. "We gave them the names of those we trained to fight them. And some we will leave behind to the violence we see at the airport. An appalling day, verging from rage to tears." It has also been reported that US officials in Kabul gave the Taliban a list of names of American citizens and Afghan allies to grant them entry into the militant-controlled outer perimeter of Kabul's Airport - sparking criticism of the decision.
Absolutely unconscionable Vladimir. I don’t currently understand why they’d do such a thing. Pretty sure all will be revealed in time.
It couldn't be that they didn't want these potential refugees to arrive in the uk could it ??? Surely they wouldn't be that devious and underhand ??? I bet this is sticking in Priti Patel's craw though !!! Support package will welcome Afghan refugees with open arms – PM Geraldine Scott 28 August 2021, 10:30 pmThe families of Afghan interpreters who have fled the Taliban to the UK will be offered free English courses as part of a comprehensive package to help them settle in their new home. More than 8,000 Afghans and their families have been evacuated from Kabul airport since August 13 under the Afghan Relocation and Assistance Policy (Arap) scheme. And a new programme dubbed Operation Warm Welcome, overseen by Victoria Atkins who will become Afghan resettlement minister, aims to deliver all the refugees need to help them integrate into British society. Prime Minister Boris Johnson said: “For those who have left their homes with no more than a small bag of belongings, and in fear for their lives, coming to the UK will no doubt have been a daunting experience, but also one of hope for the future. “I am determined that we welcome them with open arms and that my Government puts in place the support they need to rebuild their lives. We will never forget the brave sacrifice made by Afghans who chose to work with us, at great risk to themselves. We owe them, and their families, a huge debt.” Operation Warm Welcome will be modelled on a similar scheme put in place for Syrian refugees and will include ensuring access to health and education services, as well as support into work and accommodation. A central hub will also be created where organisations and individuals can register to give their support, after an outpouring of offers to support those coming to the UK. This could be volunteering, jobs, professional skills, trauma support, or donations. And free English lessons will also be provided as although many of those Afghans coming to the UK may have good English skills through working as interpreters, their families may not. It comes after all UK troops and diplomatic personnel were pulled out of Kabul on Saturday, marking the end of the evacuation effort. Ms Atkins, who alongside her new role remains as minister for safeguarding, said: “It is a source of great national pride that the UK steps up to support those in need. We owe so much to the people of Afghanistan who worked side by side with us. “I look forward to helping them, their families and other vulnerable people whom we resettle over the coming years to recover from their trauma and build a new life here.” Home Secretary Priti Patel added: “This week we have all seen the relief on the faces of those who have made it from Afghanistan to safety here in the UK. “Our message to those who have already arrived, welcome – we are glad you are here and you will be treasured members of our communities.”
