Created in God's image. Do you like that idea? "The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully." ¯ Richard Dawkins, The God Delusion Deuteronomy 32:4 He is the Rock, his work is perfect Matthew 5:48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect. Scriptures tell us to be like God and emulate all he does as we are to follow in his footsteps. If you are a Christian, are you capable of following your God? Would you be able and willing to do some of the things the bible shows God doing? Are you created in God’s image? Regards DL
Here we go again! God as depicted in the Old Testament has attributes that are not worth emulating. But that's just the way people in ancient Israel and Judea depicted Him. Joseph Campbell defined God as a metaphor for that which completetly transcends human understanding. God, as I experience Him, is the summation of human idealism. So yes, I like the idea that I and everyone else was created in God's spiritual image. In fact. that notion was central to a moment of clarity in which I became a Christian. Now I see God in every face at WalMart, and every time I look in the mirror.
how did Moses describe God's image ? I think our human befuddlement is our skill with abstractions that is like unto no other creature , and also being uprightly two-legged with knees forward bending . should they bend backwards we might feel more akin to Ostrich , that is , just a little less lonesomely peculiar . it's just as well , hoo-man , to not consider ourselves God's ultimate creature , but rather of God's children all .
Moses had a face-lift akin to the golden goat idol He was disavowing at hie tribe for ignoring ordinary common sense. But the evoking of God in his mercy can make sense for and in spite of the life to suffer at the need of being human with the rest of the Clan.
Why pick Christianity with it's discrimination against women when you could go Gnostic Christian and not have that in your theology at all. The thinking show is the Gnostic Christian’s goal as taught by Jesus but know that any belief can be internalized. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=alRNbesfXXw&feature=player_embedded This method and mind set is how you become I am and brethren to Jesus. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FdSVl_HOo8Y When you can name your God, I am, and mean yourself, then you will begin to know the only God you will ever find. Which Moses; the original Moses in ancient times; or the modern Moses of trustworthy banks and turnpikes in downtown New York?
Yes, I am created in God's image. I am .......................... God's vagina. Or, I'm just kidding and I'm really just God's sense of humor. Psalms 34 11 Come, my children, and listen to me, and I will teach you to fear the Lord. 12 Does anyone want to live a life that is long and prosperous? 13 Then keep your tongue from speaking evil and your lips from telling lies! 14 Turn away from evil and do good. Search for peace, and work to maintain it. 15 The eyes of the Lord watch over those who do right; his ears are open to their cries for help. 16 But the Lord turns his face against those who do evil; he will erase their memory from the earth. 17 The Lord hears his people when they call to him for help. He rescues them from all their troubles. 18 The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed.
Dear God, Please erase the memory of those who torment me day and night. Thanks so much! ~ Me (ps. this is not the proper way to make a plea to God, just fyi)
I really don't know if you enjoyed that. To me the subject of Moses was likeable because it was devised in a Republican Era for the common people to feel good about: "truth is no fun all of the time" IDEA.
1.In the beginning Man created God; and in the image of Man created he him. 2. And Man gave unto God a multitude of names, that he might be Lord of all the earth when it was suited to Man 3. And on the seven millionth day Man rested and did lean heavily on his God and saw that it was good. Jethro Tull
Let's get it straight...The answer is "yes"...You are created in God's image...Why?...because you possess one distinct thing from any other living creature on this Earth...The ability to "choose"... You have the power of choosing your own destiny in your life within reason...You have the ability to choose between right and wrong...You have the ability to do one thing, one day and do something different the next...You have the ability to choose whom you're going to love and who not to...No other living animal has that many complexity of personal choices awarded to them because things in life for other animals on this planet is not an option...It's a necessity... It is what sets us apart from anything else on this planet...Most importantly, you have the power to choose whether you acknowledge God the creator and father of mankind or not...It's your option... What does that have to do with anything in relation with God?...Well, if you believe in God the father and creator ( and let me stress again...it's optional ) then you would know throughout the history of the old Testament in the Bible of all things that God chose to keep a strict hand on people in obedience in those days even wiping out with the great flood mankind and starting all over again minus a few select...but because mankind was still corrupted in their ability to "choose" obedience even after, God had to himself, make a CHOICE...So he chose a new covenant with man realizing that the ones that he created in his "image" could not keep obedience... He decided to bring a recreation of himself known as Jesus Christ to the Earth to be able to level with mankind one on one because the communication between living flesh and spiritual being cannot communicate on the same level...Jesus came and set the record straight for what mankind needs to do to bridge the gap between God the father and mankind...Of course the disobedience of the ones that put him to death "unknowingly by their choice" still reflects the choosing of mankind even though God knew that this was to be and was necessary for that last sacrifice of atonement for all of man's shortcomings of the past, present, and future... If you read and believe the words of Jesus, believe in him, and apply it to your life, the rest is history...and don't worry about being a perfect "Christian" because there are none! Simple as that...Done...
Yesterday, I went on a spirit walk, a couple debating faith and prayer asked me if I was Jesus as I walked by. I replied with a disgusting, no. True story.
