That's true. I mean, I love David Gilmour, and Pink Floyd are my favourite band, but some people may hate Gilmour and his slow style. Clapton also has a solw, bluesy style (not that they're at all similar) but I don't like Clapton. Music is all subjective, so I guess that Clapton isn't 'bad' or whatever - I just find him boring.
Axis, Pink Floyd is my favorite band, as well, and I know exactly what you mean about the critics of David Gilmour. Someone actually told me last night he is not "wild" enough for him. Everyone has their own taste in music, but I wish people would see guitarists do not have to be playing at full speed to be appreciated. I saw in another one of your posts about the annoyance of people always comparing speed to talent. I hear this a lot from metal fans, and it bothers me to no end.
To each his own. Someone once said on some forum that Gilmour is one of the few guitarists who can be identified after the listener hears only a single note, and I think this is the perfect description of Gilmour's talents. He could make his strat sing, baby. I do prefer Clapton, but that's just me. Gilmour is definitely one of my favorites.
By the way, this might have been mentioned, but for those of you who want to see Clapton playing the SHIT out of his guitar, check out Live Cream. Talk about a power trio, my God. That album makes even Zeppelin's live stuff sound... well, I won't say tame, but definitely less intense
