Do you think these bands actually like the original versions? Like the ones doing pop songs?

 

Hmm, I'm not sure. All I know is that they do covers and I don't know if they pick the songs themselves or if they are chosen by the record company.

 

It seems like something that correlates with the rise of digital music. Aside from Me First and The Gimme Gimme's who I think mostly do it out of irony, I don't recall many of those types of covers pre-millenium, and I think it would've been generally considered a sell out move. If that is so, it's quite fascinating how the way we consume music can kind of dictate the way we appeciate bands to some extent.


This primarily based on modernity.

Actually I stand corrected, I guess punk was doing pop covers pretty early on...

I hadn't the foggiest notion it was by Prince until I googled the Foo version and saw Prince in the results this morning.

 

I heard the Foo Fighters version long before I heard Prince's original as well. I was actually considering posting that about a month or so ago.
