No way in hell is the cover of mr tambourine man better than the original. One of my favorite songs. The original that is
^agree. I'll give him Jimi's All Along the Watchtower but Dylan's Mr. Tambourine Man is great. And GnR just fucking ruined Knocking on Heaven's door for me. I wont even listen to Dylan's version anymore because I just associate it with GnR. It's my least favorite Dylan song.
Dylan's mr tambourine man...nothing can even compare. Don't ask me to understand anyone who thinks the byrds cover is better, even though I like the byrds. In my opinion possibly the greatest "pop" song ever written. I feel for anyone who doesn't see the majesty of the original. Dylan was a genius, plain and simple.
I don't like GnR's version of Knocking on Heaven's Door either. Not sure I would say this is better than Dylan's but I like this take on it.
I never really gave Clapton's take on this a fair shake, but he really took a huge risk and put a serious twist on that song and I give a tip of the hat to him for that.
Some of his greatest songs are superbly covered though. Davey Graham's Don't think twice its alright is obviously a fav of mine Yeah, I can relate.
I agree All along the watchtower would have to be the best in my opinion Tennessee Whiskey is good, but also like George Jones. One I like is Crimson and Clover by Joan Jett, because it was in my era.
You end up hearing HORRIBLE cover versions of some songs on the InStore Audio Network service at some supermarkets, such as Stop & Shop in the northeast US. "A Thousand Miles" from Vanessa Carlton was one thing, but the version I've heard at S&S? Made me want to puke. Don't get me started on the cover of "Man In The Mirror"!
