I find it kind of comforting at the same time. Considering other intelligent life doesn't have to be interested in us at all. But people often make the mistake that such a consideration is rooted in (religious) belief. But I actually find it an educated guess, at least in my case. I'm not convinced there isn't any, but I find the general scientific notion that 'there's got to be other developed intelligent life in our universe considering how many suns and planets there are' also a bit of a belief. Yes, I acknowledge the possibility, but there's also the possibility the only other life in our universe are not much more than bacteria.
