Could make crank calls

i remember when you could make crank calls with a mechanical crank, on the side of the phone.
it rotated a magnetic field that generated a signal that actuated a set of relays, that made someone else's phone, ring on the other end.

(i've probably said that before, but its still true that there was such a time)
