There's correlation and then there's causation. For example, there's a correlation between ice cream eating and incidents of rape. Because both tend to occur in the Summer months. Is there causation? Obviously not. OTOH, when Bill Clinton became president, he stopped pursuing obscenity and pornography cases. Two years into his first term in fact, with Janet Reno as attorney general. And, violent crime, including rape, went way down. Probably because of "three strikes and you're out". But hey. Doesn't that show a correlation? That making porn more available leads to less crime? See what I mean? Seems like it would.

But some people try to make an even weaker argument than that, using something called the cherry picking fallacy. Which is basically where they cite one example, maybe they are the ones who witnessed it, to prove a point. This diet plan must work, for example. Because I tried it, and it did. But that's an even worst way to prove a point than basing it on correlation. And get your facts straight too before you start a debate, people.
