Please don't kill any snakes, unless you have to. Venomous Snake Relocators http://www.anapsid.org/societies/venomousrelocators.html
First, outside the box, he found a baby one that he actually brushed aside with his hand as he moved the leaves off the lid of the box. He thought maybe it was randomly cruising around by itself. When he opened the lid he saw at least one adult coiled inside and quickly slammed the lid shut.
Yeah, Orison, Hubs said if no one will come out for free or it costs way too much, he will try to find some dry ice cause it's quicker. Then he will have to leave some water running through the pipes so they don't freeze while the snakes are freezing. Edit: Now he says with dry ice he probably won't even have to open the lid. He thinks the cold will go down through that metal lid and do the job of slowing them down enough so they can be moved out.
We're in Atlanta and have had some super nice, really warm weather. Daffodils, Tulips, Fruit Trees, and SNAKES are blooming, lol
On 8/8/2000 at 2am, I opened the gate to the back yard, took 2 steps in, and stepped AND STOOD on a baby copperhead. It bit me twice before I even knew what was happening...I did NOT look on the sidewalk...I was doing my version of sneaking to see DAMN OWLS that had been coming into the trees back there. It bit me 2 more times before we got aloose (a-loose?) from each other. I looked down and realized in my sandals that the little pricks I was feeling was a freakin' snake! I just couldn't get off of him fast enough...I remember shaking him loose! He wiggled off to safety...I was screaming like a girl...yesirree. I went to the emergency room by myself, where they gave me a tetnus shot for the rust on those baby fangs, I guess. The snake wound up biting me a total of 4 times...they said at the hospital that after observing me for 5 hours, that I wasn't going into cardiac arrest or respiratory failure so they were NOT going to give me any anti-venon. Altho they could "tell it was probably just what you said it was, since you OBVIOUSLY had a poisonous snake to bite you," says the special nurse-looker. :sultan: It felt like 10 bazillion wasps landed inside my foot, and my foot/ankle swoll up as big as my head. I didn't know skin could stretch that much without bursting, but it did. yay, huh. Being bitten like that was an unreal mental experience...it was terribly painful, but mentally you just like Go Away. or something. I've heard that sometimes when the native americans wanted to go on a vision quest, they would drink snake venom. I believe it. Oh - and since I'm from the south, too...I appreciate the head's up. There are PLENTY of woods and UNINHABITED SPACE near us for this awful little snake to live, But I appreciate the head's up...I'll have my eye open for those rascals..me and my trusty hoe.
Is this outside the house or in the house? Sounds scary to me and I would not mess about with them at all. Call someone who deals in this stuff and stay safe.
Good morning, interesting story since I live in an area where you have to be lucky to see a snake. I haven't seen one for a decade or so. We have two or three species in Germany that are venomous and I think a few people had been killed by snake bites in the past. But it's a rare event. Regards Gyro
I dont know if you can eat a copper head , but I know you can eat rattel snake , and the meal is expencive . If you can feeze and kill them , and they are ok to eat, you might think about cooking them . Also if you have a .410 shot gun , you might load a real light load , that would kill the snakes and not hurt the pipes . desert rat
p.s. It does look like you could eat them , if you wanted to . I have killed some rattle snakes , but could not find any one that would cook them for me . http://www.chacha.com/question/are-copper-head-snakes-safe-to-cook-and-eat http://www.archerytalk.com/vb/showthread.php?t=1313131 http://www.trailquest.net/SNsnakes_us.html I remember a line from a movie where these guys were eating a snake he says " tastes like snake " desert rat
I happened to think, my son's water meter box is right next to mine. Nobody's looked inside it to see what might be in there...
I found this on our Water Dept's website. It's about how to check for leaks. Follow these easy steps: 1. Turn off all water inside and outside of the house... 2. Take the lid off the meter box. Be careful, as lids can be heavy, and sometimes bugs and small animals hide inside meter boxes. Uh - You think?!
