From my experience cops and be cool or dicks depending YOUR attitude. I've gotten out dui's and countless other shit just by being respectful and cooperative. Oh and always pay attention to what they say and how they say it. Because they'll try and trip you up with trick questions and confusing statements to get you to incriminate yourself. If you can beat them at their own game they'll have no choice but to let you go.

My last sentence was written to make it all seem less grim, etc. :)

But I have known a cop or two (neighbors), and there's something slightly twisted about the way their brain works: They purposely look for "bad guys" - no matter what the situation might be. And many lives are damaged or ruined as a result. Not cool.

Bastard cops have few if any morals. Look at the recent murders cops have done. Fullerton CA being one of those. Moore OK is another.

As I have witnessed, the cops will target the disabled, indigent and homeless. Come on, you see it. And they do what they want to them. And what can the survivors do? "Sue"? Provided they can find a lawyer to take the case? Provided they even live?

Ugh I can attest to some awful shit cops do. I've considered writing it all down and just, releasing it to the public.... When I was sixteen I had my boobs very obviously fondled, while cops were searching for cigarettes.... But that's funny, our cigarettes had already been confiscated. And so had our weed. So basically this guy just wanted to touch an underage girl. When I was seventeen I watched them illegally arrest a friends father for being tipsy in his own yard. When I was eighteen I was mugged by a random dude in my neighborhood. a cop literally drove by, made eye contact with me while the guy mugging me had a gun in my back. The guy actually ended up becoming my friend because I had literally no money.... But seriously. 10pm at night in a place cops always tell me 'white people don't come here' (loljk fucking LIVED THERE for twenty years) and cops that literally seem to always be searching for something to be wrong.... You're gonna tell me a scared looking little white girl being manhandled by a large black dude isn't reason to engage? Ohwell fuck them anyway.

On thanksgiving a cop slammed my boyfriends car with the door of his cop car. I've been pulled over, guns drawn so many times. Why? I honestly don't know. There's been times they apologized for the scare tactics.....'just doing my job' but GODDAMN why. If you are doing your job, do you guys always seem to try to fuck me over? Fuck your statistics.

Last summer I got caught with ten grams of weed. Baggies. a scale. The cops found some clear rolling papers made from cellulose and kept me in lockup because they thought it was ACID. how fucking dumb is that.... Intent to sell was dropped because Chicago doesnt give a fuck about weed. My engagements with Chicago police have been awful every. Time.

Imagine you are 12. Driving home from dinner. Cops pull you over. Then they come up. guns drawn, yellingat your dad to step out of the vehicle. Yelling for your grandmother who cant walk, to step out of the vehicle. Its raining. We all file out of the car, grandma takes a while but she eventually is standing with her walker, in the rain, while cops literally tear the vehicle apart.... All without a reason. Just, pulling up door panels and shit. What gives them a right?!

That being said.... That scene from breaking bad really humanized the cops for me, in that moment. Maybe they're just regular people doing a job. A job that turns us into victims, yes.

But of the people I know who wanted to be cops.... I worry they will kill us all one day

I haven't had much contact with them, but so far those that I have encountered were just normal, regular people only doing their job.
They will occasionally (in the news, in the media) be those who were way too brutal and used too much force without good reason, which is rather sickening.

Man im sort of dissapointed. I didnt realize the people of hip forums were so quick to judge millions of people based on a few they have met... Ive met a lot of cops and i realize some of them really are good people just working a job for a paycheck to live. Some truly want to help people too.

I have 2 friends my age currently who are cops in training(they may be full time cops now) One of them is a really cool dude... I was with him at atleast 10 parties over the summer where there was people smoking pot, etc. He would just say no thanks i have to past drug tests when offered...

The other is truly a dick and i think he will end up an asshole cop.. lol he was hittin on a girl i know the other night and apparently told her a story of "yeah i busted them 2 guys over the summer with marijuana" not realizing the girl he was hittin on and I and very good friends with "those 2 guys" and one of them has never even smoked. I also heard he was bullied in highschool pretty bad though. Maybe the world treating bad cops bad is what turned them into what they are?

Also maybe cops wouldnt be such an asshole to you if you treat them more like people than scum? I swear people pick up vibes man. Maybe ive met nice cops because when a cop comes up to me i dont see an asshole cop coming, I see a normal man doing his job and i treat him as such. People will act how you expect them to usually... Obviously if im a cop and walk by a group who calls me a "pig" or some other shit. I wouldn't be mr.nice guy.

If the cop is an arrogant control freak, your attitude won't mean shit since he already views himself as being "above you." I was more than cooperative with the cop who gave me my DUI -- perhaps too cooperative. So much for that, because where did it get me? I now have a misdemeanor under my belt for life.

If that is the only reason you can imagine I pity your lack of empathy/reasoning skills (don't know which aspect is to blame exactly :p). There ought to be at least one or 2 who joined seriously to serve and protect :p I know there are here and as usual I can't stand how people justify hating on every one of them just because they're part of the police force.
It's typical how the human mindset works... or (as I've wondered before) your police force must really really suck.

I'm with Babyjay, I've had similar bad experiences at the hands of abusive and civil rights violating assholes...but forget about our experiences, all you gotta do is pay attention to the news to see there are far too many bad cops projecting a bad image on the entire force. My last experience with the cops was as a town council member, scrutinizing their time sheets, ( my town contracts law enforcement patrols) caught 'em cheating on their time too. Anyone know how awesome it is to be the boss of the cops for a change? Priceless!

I have a true story about a cool cop..

Ten years ago I was out drinking on a weeknight with my brother. I was underage at the time, and my brother, who bought the hooch, was not. So, we were sitting on a curb drinking 710ml (very big) cans of Colt 45. After 10 minutes this cop car pulls up. The curb by the way was behind a gas station.

This tall red headed cop gets out of cruiser and in a very thick Irish accent says, "Alright boys, whatter ya drinkin'?"

Before we have time to say anything he says, "Ayech, Colt 45.. You couldn't afford no better?" And he asks for our ID's. My brother provides his and the cop looks it over then asks for mine. I very reluctantly hand it over..

He studies it for a couple seconds then says our last name (naturally I'm going to omit it from the story). He says, "(name).. Yus are broathers! What a great Irish name! It's old, eh? (repeats name)"

He looks down at us.. And says, "Alright boys.. Chug yur beer den."

My brother starts chugging his beer.. Nervous that I'm being baited I look at the cops face. "Go on.. Chug yur beer then gowan home."

I say, "Sir... I just opened this.. It's huge. And strong."

He goes, "Gowan and chug it. Before my partner gets out. She's a real hardass. You shouldn't a bought shuch a big can a shite then should yua?" And he smiled real big.

He stood there and watched us as we chugged our beer then told us to go home and enjoy the rest there. He was very polite. Personable too.

Why? People drink and drive all the time, and pretty much everyone does it or has done it. It doesn't mean they're impaired or intoxicated just because they're over the legal limit. I believe that if a person gets behind the wheel drunk and kills someone, they should suffer the consequences, including jail, but this culture of trampling people's rights in the name of preventing drunk drivers is just preposterous and amounts to nothing more than another money-grab.

You guys from the more sane and polite parts of the world don't count. ;)

Come to America, where what should be one of the pillars of a free society, "the presumption of innocence" has been all but abandon in the name of homeland security. :(

The whole DUI .08 number does seem rather arbitrary. It works in the favor of law enforcement, since blood alcohol is effected by so many factors that it is impossible to tell what your level is.

It seems simple to just not drink/use drugs if you know that you are going to drive. But life gets in the way. It seems to me that you have to be seriously drunk to hit someone or not care how badly you are driving. Then again I haven't systematically tested this theory.

If you are intoxicated enough to drive in a manner that gets you noticed by police, than you probably are too drunk to drive. In that case you shouldn't get a life-ruining DUI (especially 1st offense). The cop should tell you to get off the road for a few hours.

Well I understand if there is more corruption there is also more hate/dislike against the force executing that corruption but still I do not see the point of seriously hating on every human that happens to be a cop (or claiming to know their motives for joining the force) simply because they're representing the law. That's for simpletons.
