You've got to realize that you are not in control of the porn, the porn is in control of you. Every time you do porn dopamine, endorphins and other neurochemicals are released. These in combination with the visual stimulation are very addicting. It's like entering a funnel or vortex. In that moment of excitement nothing else matters. Afterwards you emerge from the funnel, and you don't feel like doing it again, until the next time. Don't guilt-trip yourself, because it really isn't the fault of your better nature. We porn users are victims of porn, not the other way around. I know because I'm going through this myself.
I have not read much regarding "porn addiction" that was not based on the religious idea that it was just wrong. You can certainly gain something from not doing it mentally and physically. A women is a different experience even though it's the same experience but the shame is not necessary.
yeah, giving up porn for a little while probably wouldn't hurt anybody. but i really don't see the point of lenting it; if you want to give something up just go ahead and do it.
If you consider the kernel purpose for abstaining from something during Lent, perhaps giving up something else would make more of an impact. I used to give up beer and aromatic appetite stimulants for Lent every year. For me this answered self-denial as they were both cornerstones of my self indulgence. Since I see sex (in most forms) as a need and not a want, I would never consider giving it up for Lent and thankfully Jane, my wife, has the same opinion of this though married couples are not ever supposed to abstain from sex (but that's another debate). If your visual stimulation has become a problem for you, then giving it up as an act of mortifying the flesh might be a step toward something greater as opposed to taking a short vacation from it. I remember being in church once many years ago before Ash Wednesday and the kids were coming out of Sunday School and heading toward the chapel. Each was carrying a picture they had drawn with crayons. There were pictures of dolls, a bicycle here and there and even a few video game consoles. It was then I realized they were instructed to draw what they'd be giving up. For some reason this didn't set well with me. I felt like the children should get a pass until they were at least teenagers. The sins of little kids seem pale in comparison to the ones we carry as we get older. Why start building self dread so early in a kid's life? Then I realized what institution I was dealing with. A massive machine based in a walled garrison in the heart of Rome that survives only by creating new, obedient member servants. While I still celebrate Lent and a couple of other sacraments, I do them for God and my soul, not the church. In the last 20 years I have seen the church lose its collective mind, repeating mistakes that should have been learned well in the 16th century.
The forty days of lent represents the time Jesus spent in the wilderness enduring the temptation of Satan, so I guess its a good time to resist the urge

It's because they use the same sound tracks from the 70s (without the creepy jazz in the background).
