This one is a little harder and takes more thought than please and thank you.
It is specifically pinpointing something someone did well and commending them for it.
I tend to look at negative aspects of someone rather than the positive, but I am learning to change that and look for the good in people and not focus on what irritates me.

    Any thoughts?

Way to go. Praise, when deserved is always appreciated. I found that out years ago when young and it still is valid.

    good job OP.

the oppressor teaches us to compete with each other in the spirit of capital. they teach us to focus on differences, to be individuals, unique and more betterer than the next.

but in truth, we are all the same and should see similarities and strive for unity in the community of peace.

    edit:

and flattery is not the way to do it, nor puffing up a man in a carnal sense.

Optimism is seeing only the positives
Pessimism is seeing only the negatives
    Realism is accepting them both

Next on.. when keeping it real goes wrong

i struggle with this too. i feel like over-praising makes it seem like it's not genuine (probably because it's not), but if i wait for someone to do something that i consider to be above and beyond, it seems like i just end up waiting forever. i'm not sure if my expectations are too high, or if everyone is just really stupid and lazy.

Being a veteran i get that all the time (as if americans are trying to makeup or over-compensate for treating the vietnam vets like shit)

Problem is I wasn't even born back then.

When looking at any aspects of a person....I think it's important to realize that we are all striving for the same things. I just told my son this morning...."Many people are working so hard to just survive, that they don't have time to live." Think about that. It's not fair.

exactly...this is worth more comment, but I want to say that is why Paul was called to organize the revolution in the Roman Empire. Rome was just as oppressive today, terrifying the people and in 33 AD there was a terrible economic depression. People were hard up and they all came together and had all things in common to combat the beast system. You can read about the revolution in the so called new testament, especially the book of ACTIONS (Acts).

Lord, thou hast heard the desire of the humble: thou wilt prepare their heart, thou wilt cause thine ear to hear:
To judge the fatherless and the oppressed, that the man of the earth may no more terrify.
