As someone from the area linguistics atmosphere where Stephen Colbert began his news career,Charleston,SC, in the 1980s, his hometown; one should be aware that there's elements of Southern linguistics culture he uses to make points.

Let me explain something:

You see Charleston has always been know as America's most polite city and SOuth Carolina is as Conservative as conservative can be, the hardest of the hard core conservatives.
Ok, so in Southern culture, esp. a classy place like Charleston, when we give insults we have to phrase it in such a way that we only use nice words, so that only the people who REALLY understand what you're saying will EVER get that what you said was an insult and not a compliment.

FOr example, "Bless his heart, he tries so hard," is translated into "God my God what a fucking loser, he can't do anything right." You see, we want to say the last phrase, but can't because of social and cultural norms so if you're in the know about the person, you understand and get the insult, but play along as if it wasn't. When southern people talk, they're not always saying what they're saying, sometimes they are being so sharply scarcastic that no one outside of "the know" would get it. He takes ther conservative side to make a point of the stupidity of it all, it's very sharp, very witty and very Charleston.

I've been watching Stephen Colbert on TV since the 80s when he was just a news reporter in South Kak-a-lac-ie, now he get's to let all of that shit flow that us "southern reporters" are required to hold back under normal journalistic circumstances....

Watch the show with that understood and you might not be able to contain yourself because of laughter, but SOuthern humor, much like it's cousin, English Humor, doesn't strike everyone's funny bone the same.

If you didn't get what I meant, I meant that Colbert constantly preaches about following the president no matter what, and constantly tells others that they should too. But it's fake, so it doesn't matter. But what sucks is that it really happens, ie. Christianity and Bill O'Reilly.

The Colbert Report is a bash on more or less the Fox News and other ultra-conservative talk shows... its a complete joke.. if you cant realize that.. you just dont get it then.. and you shouldnt be watching it in the first place

I do get the Colbert Report, it's just that some of the things he says or does really put me off. Not because of Stephen himself, I know he's doing it for laugh's, but because there are ultra-conservative pricks who really do think that way.

But I do know what the fuck I'm talking about as another person said about me earlier, but for Duck, I meant no offense, just a little sarcasm.

I will second that. Its friggin' annoying and all the same, racist jokes over and over. And it's annoying that all the kids at my school running around yelling "DEE DEEDEE!" at the top of their lungs.

I've gotten it a long time ago. I thought that's what the truth was for the first couple of episodes, but trust me I know that Colbert is on our side.
