Certainly, but I do make a conscious effort to avoid that type of thinking because it really bothers me, especially when I do it.
Here's what gave him the idea... (besides all the other violence kids are exposed to these days!) Seriously! Why is it so hard for ppl to believe that watching something like this doesn't give others ideas and then they fantasize and get off on the fantasy so much, they make it real. Violent movies like this, zombie, vampire movies, even dark, brooding movies like Batman are the most popular among young people. Do ppl even realize what this does not only to individuals but to the collective consciousness (subconscious). You can't expect everyone to react in a normal fashion when the become so DESENSITIZED to violence by watching it in some form every day. Right before the end of this promo video, four guys with automatic weapons shoot up a movie theater full of people. This trailer has been showing along with the new Batman movie and they're trying hard to pull all of them from every theater. http://www.deadline.com/2012/07/war...ch-studio-didnt-take-down-until-i-complained/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VUQNpG5SVnY"]'Gangster Squad' Trailer - YouTube
crazy people and guns have both been around for a long time in america. that mass killings have become common place is a relatively recent phenomenon though maybe there are other factors, like access to guns, that could account for the increase. I suspect that a big part of the problem is that we live in a much more alienated, predatorial, and polarized nation. the social contract has broken down. the violence, the mean spiritedness, and the "do what you you can get away with" mentality that permeates our society not only produces more angry and unstable people, it pushes such people further to the margins, and makes this type of incident more likely. it is not surprising (if I understand correctly) that the perpetrators of the columbine killings were bullied. kids have been bullied in school for a long time, but I think the severity and pervasiveness of it has increased. also, the kind of positive social forces that keep communities together have also declined. the people who commit these crimes have to take responsibility for what they have done, but these things aren't coming out of the blue. they are part of a society that is dysfunctional.
At the moment this guy committed this atrocity,he was more than "crazy".He was socio/psychopathic,by definition. There is a slight difference. It's not a film that I would want to see - my life, although relatively pleasant compared to some, contains enough horror as it is.
This is especially true if you consider that about a month later, another, similar situation occurred at another high school in Canada.
Ok, but what "healthy" society did you base your statement from? What does this have to do with your statement concerning that some societies don't produce murderers? The what contract? :sultan: If by "these crimes" you mean the occasional random spree shooting I think they normally take their own life, this particular case is an acception. I would say if you owned a farm and had a dog that one day decided to kill all the goats it would not necessarily mean that the farm was abnormal, it was the individual stop making excuses for them.
bhutan is one of the poorest, but also one of the happiest countries in the world. television was only introduced to bhutan very recently, and since then the rate of violent crime has increased dramatically
Hey All, I do happen to have some inside knowledge on James Holmes. He has suffered from severe depression, which may have been a contributing factor in this stuff going down. I can't condone his actions, by any means, but there is a longer story behind it. I don't know all of it, but will likely find out more information soon. My thoughts do go out to all the victims and their families during this horrible time.
america (at least in some ways) used to be healthier the healthier america was not as fucked up also take a look at a place like Iceland. in some years, zero murders in the whole country. i think that part of that is a society where people treat each other more like the way they would like to be treated than just doing what they can get away with. maybe i'm wrong though. maybe it's for some other reason. that's the way it seems to me though. the social contract. that's pretty much "you don't mess with me, I don't mess with you. you help me out, I help you out." the alternative is the law of the jungle, aka might makes right, force is the only law no, but if michael vick owned the farm, i'd start to wonder
I can't believe all the craziness in the world today!! It's just said that small innocent children had to be involved in this cruel act of violence, as well as all the other movie goers. I just can't wrap my finger around it in what would make ppl want to commit such awful acts to the innocent .
A Ph.D. Student in Neuroscience, described by everyone as a nice, quiet guy who didn't like attention. I'm sure he was a sociopath who wanted to cause chaos, he told the cops he was the joker. Some people would argue that he was just crazy but it seems like he just wanted to bring anarchy to the public, probably hated how mindless people go about their day doing the same thing over and over again Hell he even played loud music in order for people to go to his house while it was rigged with a shitton of explosives. This guy clearly wanted chaos Isn't it strange that just after the UN Anti-gun treaty this happens and now two media outlets are calling for gun control? Just saying.
