Anybody on here take cold showers for health purposes? I was told that cold showers work as a form of cardio, as your heart pumps vigorously to warm your limbs. They jolt you right up in the morning like a strong coffee, but without the effects of caffeine. And that cold water does not dry up your skin like hot water. Before hot water heaters were made, this was how it was done. I'm not ballsy enough to do a full cold shower, at least not yet. I'm doing Contrast Showers: running intervals of hot and cold water. And I feel much more energized with cold water. My skin feels better after a cold shower, and I'm more mentally alert to begin my work day.
Last time I took a cold shower I was a kid in summer camp many moons ago and swore I would never take another.
I do notice the effects that you mention, but Im reeeeally not a big fan of them. It's been quite awhile since I've had one.
Not showers, but i sometimes do jump in the ocean in winter for the same reason. Does seem to do something for the circulation And summer here, every shower is a cold shower, but still comes out same temp as surrounding atmosphere
I was always told that if you have cold baths and showers and swimming in cold water, that your body needs to work harder to increase your temperature and therefore you burn more calories trying to keep warm. I heard that when I was kid swimming in cold snow run off's. Not sure if it's true but I always dip in the snow melts and I attribute to clean skin and slowing down age.
I take a hot shower and rinse with cold water right before I get out. Sometimes. Sometimes i'm just really not up for the blast of cold
after I do lawn work Im really hot, dirty, sweaty. But I start off with hot water, then turn it down.
This right here. A shower as hot as I can stand, and spend the last minute rinsing off with just cold water.
As your attorney I advise you to read this thread replacing every 'cold shower' with 'golden shower'.
i do it often during the summer my health is not the greatest and a few times it saved me from passing out works a lot faster than trying to find the frozen gel pack in the freezer
I take cold showers after some longer workouts. Pro athletes often take ice baths, now those sound pretty painful.
I hate cold anything ( except pie) As soon as my kids learned that I hate cold --they delighted in throwing cold water over the top of the shower curtain to hear me holler! Didn't get mad tho--I enjoy a good prank.
In some houses, flushing the toilet can turn the shower water cold for a split second (or does it turn hot.... I don't remember). But it never worked in my house.
