A a clothing optional beach, is it considered ok if for example the guy goes fully nude but the girl stays in a bikini?

I understand if it was the guy fully dressed or both were they would be viewed as being there just to watch, but since one is nude is that ok?

Usually a beach is a public place, and if anyone wants to wear clothes there, they can, but I wish they wouldn't. You haven't said whether there actually were any naked women at this beach, but I expect that every clothed woman encourages all the other women to keep their clothes on, and so we end up with a "nude beach" that's actually a place where the men go nude and the women don't object to the men being nude. Maybe if all the clothed people would just stay home, then the expectation that we're going to the beach to be naked might build up some strength! But I have to accept that as long as there aren't any naked women, the first one who does it is going to see every eyeball on the beach swivel in her direction, and maybe a few surreptitious cameras too. Not many women would enjoy being the center of attention that way.

    Thanks for the response!

Sorry, there was maybe 5-10 naked woman sunbathing but at least 20 something nude guys (myself included). My girlfriend doesn't feel comfortable being naked in public so she prefers to just wear a bikini.

Sadly the nude beach in my city (Perth, Australia) has a lot of perverts who go there looking for sexual activity. There are even couples who go there with that intention (we certainly aren't one of those couples). I believe there are certain beaches that being nude is a must right? I figured that since this beach is clothing optional it wouldn't be bad for a few were clothed. On this beach, we also have clothed people constantly walking up and down the beach.

Yeah, if it's clothing optional then it's fine for your girlfriend to keep h er bikini on, the clue is kind of in the title, as for the idea that women encourage other women to modesty, well a couple of months ago I was on holiday with a male friend, and we were in your exact position sig88 except I'm the nudist and he's not so we deliberately chose a clothing optional beach to suit us both. I spent all the time on the beach nude him none of it. My point being that although naked men are more common in these places there is no moratorium on or pressure for women to keep there clothes on, as you found out.

There's a Playboy comic strip where, at a nude beach, the wife says to passerbys "it's his first time, he's easing into it" and the husband is fully clothed except his dick is hanging out of his unzipped fly. :)

I've seen various states of (un)dress at clothing optional beaches. Whatever works for you as long as you aren't behaving pervy.

If you go naked at a beach that isn't recognized as a nude beach, you can be sure that "being clothed is a must"! But it's not reversed on a "nude beach" because they're actually clothing optional, so nobody has to be naked if they don't want to be. Maybe there's an exception somewhere, but I can't imagine a regulation saying nudity is compulsory being accepted. I'm slightly surprised that the ratio of nude women to men was as high as you say, but you're the one who was there, I wasn't.

What you have made clear is that your beach (is it Swanbourne?) suffers from the same problem as many nude beaches--people act as if once the taboo against nudity is gone, social rules in general don't apply, and so "perverts who go there looking for sexual activity" show up. If only a nude beach could be the same as any beach, except you don't have to wear clothes! But it doesn't work that way. Maybe if people knew they had to be naked, no exceptions, they'd actually behave themselves better.

This will sound like a naive question, but do Aborigines ever go to nude beaches (assuming they live somewhere near the city)? I wonder what native people, in Australia or anywhere, who have a recent tradition of nudity, think about white people who first tell them to wear clothes, and then go to places where being naked is allowed.

Nothing wrong with protecting your skin and body from harmful UV rays. :) nude beach or not, I'd be telling anyone who didn't agree with my clothing choice to kindly eat a dick.

That's what sunscreen is for... you just have to use a bit more if your nude.

No, sunscreen should only be used as a last resource IMO. I wouldn't put all my faith into what the label says or what the commercials say.

With what we all know about harmful UV Rays in today's world I find it very irresponsible how people can just not care as much as they should.

Unfortunately I have to line you up for that dick punch if I'm expected to forfeit my personal safety because someone might be uncomfortable with my clothes option of choice.

Glad to know thanks. I know with certain hobbies and that kinda thing, there can be unwritten rules that people abide by. So even though it is optional, the general consensus may be to go fully nude which is why I thought I'd ask.

Funny that you say we're both in the same position because now that I've tried going nude at the beach and love it, I'm going to be dragging my girfriend there any chance I get haha

It may have been my imagination, but I felt that we got some stares before I got nude like as if the people there expected at least one of us to be nude. With the amount of perverts there I wouldn't be surprised though!

It was a weekday so maybe that contributes to it, but from what I know that's how it always is. Before I ever went, I searched for info on the beach and its inhabitants which put me off. So many people pretty much just use it as a meet up for sexual activity. The dunes behind the beach always have men lurking around, watching women on the beach or even participating in sexual acts themselves.

I even read about complaints that when some women have gone by themselves, men have sat behind them masturbating in plain sight. All of this put me off going for such a long time but thankfully everything was fine when I finally visited. I hope to go back in the next few weekends when it's busy and see what it's like a on weekend and if it's more busy and a more even ratio.

Being that I've only been twice (once to check out the beach in winter and just the other day to actually swim), I have not seen any aboriginals. In fact, every single person on the beach was white except for myself and my girlfriend (we're both Asian). Speaking of that, I think it's considered rare for Asians so go nude beach as well right? The aboriginals are usually housed very far from the city and although you see them around the city, I haven't really seen them at the beach much.

I'm sorry to hear about the bad stuff that happens at your beach, but it seems to be typical, at least for the English-speaking world (you hear the same kind of stories from the UK and America). Going with a group of friends might help--then if the losers bother you, you'd feel able to confront them, and maybe take pictures or something.

It does seem as if naturists are pretty much all white (until we've been out in the sun a while, ha ha). There are a few members of minority groups who are naturists, but not enough to give a really good demonstration that "the uniform comes in a variety of attractive colors".

There is a reasonably well-known Chinese-American artist, Henry Yuen, who specializes in naturist scenes and unlike most, he isn't just looking for an excuse to show naked women:

Thanks I appreciate that. I think it all comes down to the over-sexualization of the human body in western societies. If it wasn't for that, maybe every beach could be a nude beach and there wouldn't be any perverts. Thankfully I haven't been bothered when I went, I've read of others that have been but thankfully I haven't experienced it yet.

Well even though I look more Asian, I'm actually half Polish and Chinese so I guess it may be the white in me that's the naturalist :p I'll have a look at his stuff. Being that I do photography, you do see many people who are interested in the female form in a non artistic way.

I think you are right about the problem being that nudity is over sexualized in our society. I lived in japan for a time and there was no nudist movement or culture as we would understand it but the idea of mixed public bathouses is still fairly common and nudity is required but considered normal. The same often goes for saunas in scandanavia. I have however had one or two unpleasant experiences whilst nude in western cultures, the worst being when I was travelling in America, one day I found a lake where nudity was accepted, so I stripped off and settled in, there were perhaps 30 people of whom maybe 10 were naked, although I was the only female to be nude. Anyway I got chatting to a couple of guys who seemed nice, after a bit though I fell asleep and woke up to see them staring at me and casually and openly masturbating. It was creepy and unpleasant it's extremely rare for something like t h at to happen but not rare enough. So don't let it put you off. I hope you continue to enjoy your beach but also amontillado is right safety or security at least in numbers.

At most of the clothing optional beaches no-one would care less. I would not wish someone to be excluded from a day at the beach with someone else or in a group just because they kept some swimwear on.

I'm actually hoping to visit Japan next year! My girlfriend wants to go to an onsen but we're not sure which we could visit since the majority of my back is covered in tattoos. Sorry to hear you had to experience that! It's happened to a few women at my beach too from what I read, the guys even get aggressive if someone confronts them. I've also read many men are hesitant to go nude beach alone in case they are mistaken as perverts for being there alone.

I don't think the whole situation has really improved either, as in the oversexualization of the human body. I think it would be hard for it to change too considering how the media using sex to advertise pretty much anything.

Hmm that might be a problem in japan, you might just have to contact the onset on an individual basis, some allowance might be made because your a foreigner. But your kind of in a catch 22 depending on what experience you want, since the more urban the area the more likely they will be to accept your tattoos but also they are more likely to segregate based on gender Than the rural areas, basically research is needed.

As for my experience as I say I'd been sleeping and so by the time I'd properly woken up and registered what was happening and the surprise had sunk in they were... done... so I couldn't say to the aggressive part, but it was a blip really I just asked a nearby group if I could tag on with them, they accepted and I spent a very pleasant couple of days at the lake with them.

Unfortunately you are right about men going on their own, and it's especially sad since those that get the courage to try are so rarely, in my experience at least, actually pervs I often try and chat to them or if I'm in a group try to integrate them to try and make it a bit less awkward and in an attempt to project a bit more of a friendly face of nudism.Although it can be funny if I'm being honest seeing people who are so afraid of being taken as pervs that they rigidly keep eye contact at all times, not realising that looking is fine, it's human nature we all do it but staring is different and can be bad.

And I agree on the media maxim sex sells being a big part of the problem. We just need to try and make casual and Jon sexual nudity more common, although I'm not sure how to and even if it was possible it would be very difficult and a long road.

Well it's mostly my girlfriend that is interested in visiting them so more of a hassle for her than me. I'm half Chinese but often get mistaken for Japanese so I figure I could possibly attract negative attention if I go shirtless in Japan. I think one mainly for foreigners would be my best bet.

On a nudist forum for my city a guy complained that his wife doesn't want to go with him, so he goes alone but has been called a pervert before. He makes a purpose of not looking at women and staying at least 20 meters away, just swimming his laps and keeping to himself. It's sort of the same as everything other stuff, the minority always ruin it for the majority.

I doubt it will stop either. For it to change, they would have to change the media and censorship laws to allow full frontal nudity no matter what the rating. All the groups that still believe nudity is some explicit vulgar thing would never allow this so I have no idea either how it would work.

Well good luck with finding somewhere in japan. As for that guy on your forum, its a shame that he has had that experience, he sounds like the sort of person I try to interact with, I bet the people who called him pervert had a negative experience themselves and let that colour their opinions, or they may just be prejudiced nudist aren't always as liberal and accepting as you might want/ think. Although I say again my belief that looking and staring are very different, I know I would never go naked in public places if I had a problem with people looking at my body, not that that's why I'm a nudist it's just a harmless and inevitable side Effect, but leering and staring are very different from noticing and looking. I also know I'm not alone in holding this belief.

Unfortunately you are right about it not changing I think, so long as a pair of breasts or a scantily clad man/woman will help someone sell something then it will continue and so long as that continues it will be seen as harmful and sexualized. Kind of a circular problem.

I see no problem with it. Being around nude people might help convince the clothed person to try it and learn to see nothing wrong with nudity. Plus, it's kinda a mutual respect thing. Learn to accept our lifestyle and we will do the same, but always leave room for interactiona nd learning from each other.
