In Islam we have to wear closed clothes, but as a woman sometimes i want to get more attention from around. trying to wear short skirts or shorts when walking out. but I'm also afraid that if my husband or family finds out for sure I will get angry with them. What ur opinion?
In my opinion, if you wish to practice hijab as an expression of your religious faith, you should be completely free to do so. When it's imposed upon you against your will, it looses any religious significance and becomes a means of oppression. As I recall, the Prophet himself (PBUH) said that there should be no compulsion in religion. A'salaam alikum
My wife is Muslim too! Welcome. I recently had to evaluate my thoughts on this matter, but a little differently. I want to tell you everything, because it's nice to meet someone who is Muslim here. But you didn't ask for my life story... What I wanted to tell you about clothes is I was planning to go to Dubai, and while they have a reputation for being the most relaxed Muslim destination in the kingdom , they do have some conservatism in societal expectations (particularly for Emiratis; less so for tourists) and because they are coastal, some very salient thoughts about this matter in particular (clothes & covering up). Often when we attempt to evaluate our thoughts on this matter, we end up (at least in America) looking at it through a tinted Western lens. So what I did was ask myself "What would I do if I were Emerati?", and I determined this: I'll cover up. ----- I don't make judgments that some people might about short skirts and tight pants or seeing a midriff that isn't totally covered. But when I review in my heart the policies of your religion, they are congruent with some of the primary values that I view as integral to global society as a larger mechanism for order. It's a good thing, essentially. But there is the issue of expression and personal freedom; not to mention that the covering up doesn't usually apply to men. But they observe a mode of dress (even in Dubai) and that represents an orderly understanding of norms and expectations in my heart, mind, and soul. I think that the conservative Islam that most of the world has learned to know is outdated, but it's wholesome. Is that valuable? Invaluable, yes. It's extraordinarily important, isn't it?
