This young women has every right to feel rage against those old, white ,privileged farts who have thrown her generation under the bus. And those who defend the old, white, privileged farts. Ignorance is not cute, funny or justified. Climate change is real and accelerating. No amount of greed and misinformation will make big oil, conspicuous consumption OK and will not change the science. Arguing about minutia as to the exact magnitude is distracting from getting going on what we all need to be doing.

Reducing CO2 and CH4 emissions at the local, National, and international level…by a lot.

Yes, these were to be offshore wind projects--the ones that drive Trump and (he thinks) whales crazy--to be undertaken by a Danish company that backed out, citing supply chain issues and rising interest rates. Hopefully, those will be short-term issues.

Yesterday, I drove past a forest of wind turbines in the western part of the state in the vicinity of Enid, OK. The terrain is flat, and as the song "Oklahoma" goes "the wind comes sweeping down the plains." Wind turbines generate close to 10,500 megawatts in my state, or about two-fifths of our generated electricity, and over four-fifths of our generating capacity from renewable resources. They don't seem to be going away anytime soon.

Do yall think encouraging the usage of pedal & sail power etc would help? I get disillusioned sometimes advocating these. So many things were hand & foot powered in the past such as sewing & washing machines. & lathes & grindstones. & kitchen pitcher pumps. & manual bowling pin setters to name a few.

    Haunting me again hotshot?
You would not dismiss the marine life for a project you disapprove of.

Do tell if the estimated economic lifetime of the offshore wind turbine is in excess of its payback period?

It seems that wind farms in the ocean aren't killing whales. The debate has arisen due to a documentary called "Thrown to the wind".
What they claim is that increased boat traffic and sonar mapping, due to the construction of the farms is what is disrupting the relationship between whale mothers and their offspring.

So I assume once the farm is built the harm would lessen.

In addition it seems that wind farms themselves aren't bad, it's the siting that needs to be reconsidered.
The cost of wind farms, both environmentally and economically seems to be very minor. In other words they are much better for the environment and economy than fossil fuels.

Yea,well a lot of the freight in the US could be moved cheaper and more energy efficient by rail…..the huge subsidies that keep all the 18 wheelers on the road needs to be pared back …..much of the freight is not that time sensitive that rail is not a viable option.

Trains were of primary importance in the 1800s. Aren’t trains too racist?

Lol. You won't be able to do it directly or specifically. The wind -generated electricity goes into the grid, and when you plug in, you get the electricity from whatever source.

Boooooooooo! Were you as concerned about the impacts on aquatic wildlife when it was offshore oil rigs and tankers? From everything I've read, the alleged impact of offshore wind turbines on aquatic wildlife is estimated to be far worse than that of the Santa Barbara oil spill or Exxon Valdez.

Gee, I dunno. I think it depends on size and conditions at a given site.

That awkward moment where it all backfires…

“However, in 2020, as part of an effort to curb the harmful aerosol pollution released by these ships, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) imposed strict regulations on shipping, reducing sulfur content in fuel from 3.5 per cent to 0.5 per cent.

The reduction in marine clouds has allowed more heat to be absorbed into the oceans, accelerating an energy imbalance, where more heat is being trapped than being released.”

So let me get this straight. Leading climate scientist James Hansen says 'global warming will accelerate'. I thought you were telling us that wouldn't happen. It's all a hoax. But now you tell us it will happen because of an unintentional global geoengineering experiment: the reduction of ship tracks. Are you suggesting that all measures to reduce global warming will lead to similar results? If not, what are you suggesting? If so, what is your evidence? Solving the problem of climate change, in which James Hansen is a big believer, is complex, and missteps are bound to occur. Nothing to gloat about.
