I suppose my grandpa always had the finest cough syrup around. His brothers still do. There's still somewhere near 100 major warehouse distilleries in the Blue Ridge. Mostly in Southwest VA, but the majority are in Winchester, Virginia, where I go camping...

Which is also why I don't like to wander off too much from trails when I'm out there...

 

Most of europe dont have binge drinking problems, and low and behold, most of europe let people drink at 16...

21 is pretty ridiculous, I know a lot of people that started drinking around family around 16ish :tongue:

 

In a way, you're comparing apples an oranges though.

Most of Europe tends to regard drunkeness as a flaw; in the US and Ireland it is regarded as masculine, amusing, and comical, in general.

Which countries have the way higher rate of alcoholism.

Simply changing the age restriction could be disasterous wihtout changing the fundamental ideas behind it.

 

even if the legal drinking and buying age is 18, it's still very easy to buy alcohol down here. So it doesn't really matter

 

people under 21 dont really (in my experience) have much problem getting alcohol.. so the only thing the law really seems to do is keep *most* under 21 year olds out of bars and such.
and bars really get boring after awhile. its only fun if theirs a good band, or its a small tavern with pool and/or shuffleboard and a jukebox.

 

Drinking should be compulsory... at 16 everyone should tie on a good one so they know what a hangover is all about.

I'm sorry, but pubs are the shit. Banter with locals, a slection of beers and a safe indoors place to drink is genious.

 

It's all fun. Even clubbing is fun when you're single.

 

thats what sounds like a local tavern/bar to me (i think i'm the only person who says tavern lol)
"the bars" are like clubs except filled with people who dont dance. they are ok.. but it gets old. the clubs.. ugh.. i'm not into paris hilton look alikes dancing all night in barely anything.
