Two of the best IMO influential guitarists were Clapton and Hendrix. Now what exactly was this "Woman Tone" thing that Eric Clapton used? Jimi Hendrix I always heard was very good on the Wa Wa pedal.

Hendrix was good at everything. One of his favorites was a 12 string, which of course has no wa-wa.
He would switch cords rapidly without the "squeal -squeak" that even some of the best couldn't avoid.

One of my favorites....... Red House...
Perfection....hard to beat this, note there is little distortion in this live version...you can't hide mistakes w/o distortion.
Imagine sitting in London in 1969...and this plays... no one had ever heard anything like it.

Indeed, if you was to remove Clapton and Hendrix from existence music to this day would be different. Their combined influences is unparalleled.

About the same time I think Hendrix and the experience and Cream was playing "new" music. New sound.

Hendrix's playing is undeniable in it's greatness.

Aside from a few tracks, "White Room" by Cream for instance, Clapton's studio playing doesn't jump off the record the same way. I think the fact there are so many great guitarists now (many of which he influenced) has something to do with it. The best way to appreciate Clapton imo is live.

I'd like to put in a vote for Jeff Beck.

Interesting party scene video. There's his "voodoo chile" riffs in this rendition.

Good ear!...I didn't pick that up, but your right there are several rifts there...I also picked up on a rift that sounds a lot like what is in Red House.
