Donnyw - - Maybe some of the others are pissed off about you getting cut, but for my part I’m just happy that it was you and not me that was mutilated. Your question that I underlined is just ridiculous …. when circumcised you still have your penis, just less of it. What bothers me about all of the pro-circumcision posts is that they encourage parents to be to mutilate their children.
Cloud7 - - your post should be required reading for all parents to be. Hopefully it will save some helpless babies from being mutilated.
Yeah, my mom's judgment to not get me circumcised was that it should be my choice, and if I wanted to I could choose to get circumcised later in my life. Would you want someone else deciding for you whether or not you get your foreskin cut off? I like my foreskin, thank you very much.
See, you miss the point though that vast majority of people who are cut enjoying being cut, but even if you wanted to be cut, it's just you generally won't do as an adult just because the idea of having knives in your dick. And you can't really have a constructive debate on the topic when you call it mutilation. Most people who are mutiliated aren't pleased with the effects. Female circumcision is mutilation because it has the sole purpose of taking away the sexual satisfaction from the female, as I'll say again: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sexual_effects_of_circumcision#Summary_of_research_findings All the studies done on it can basically be summed up in it makes no difference to sexual satisfaction
I wonder if a baby likes the idea if having knives in its dick?... BTW, I'm not here to argue. I could care less about another man's penis.
I'm cut, my two sons are cut. I watched them get cut (and cringed). I like to take moral stands on lots of things. And I'm generally against doing things because you're "supposed" to. But I just can't dig up any outrage on this topic. I'm completely indifferent. The first time I saw an uncut penis I thought it looked weird. And I still think that. And when I see circumsized penises I think they look "normal." But that's just because I'm evaluating them based on what mine looks like. (I prefer not to look at ANY penis besides my own, if I can avoid it.) I don't feel robbed because I'm cut. I don't feel I robbed my two boys of anything, either. They don't show any evidence of emotional scarring from this ordeal when they were 20 hours old. I don't think I do either. Sex feels good for me, it feels good for my wife. I imagine it will feel good for my sons and their partners. I don't know. It just seems like a lot of nothing. I wish I could add something to the discussion besides indifference ...
It's OK ... I was raised Catholic (hence the circumcision tradition), but don't presume to know. I'm inclined to say probably not. I didn't do this for religious reasons, though it's probably why I was circumsized. I never asked my mother about it because I didn't know there was such a thing as an "uncircumsized" penis until I was in my teens. When you're 16 you tend not to ask your mom about dicks. I barely recall it with my sons, but I recollect that when the doctor came in and it was time to do the procedure, I went with him and watched. We were back in a few minutes. The boy had some vaseline and a tissue on his junk, and I went and got a cheeseburger. I remember the cheeseburger more than the circumcision.
real_large - - thank you for the informative response. It's unusual considering the subject. :cheers2: Growing up in the '40s I was one of only two uncut kids that I knew or had seen in the swimming pool showers. But back then people just didn't talk about things like that so I didn't have any understanding of either side of it.
Well to lighten the mood a bit it's funny cause given the time period I'm sure both sides in their head were going "wtf mate?"
It will phase out slowly, like any nonsensical tradition. Doctors will stop doing it (do no harm) and it will be relegated to religious ceremony only. Then that will stop after more untrained clerics start botching the procedure and getting sued.
Huh? Circumcision is an American tradition, not a Catholic one. South of the border, down Mexico way, they're almost all Catholic, and almost never circumcised.
I think American Catholics started circumsizing because they thought it would prevent masturbation. Little did they know ... It's fun to play with no matter how much skin it has. Plus, if I remember our hospital bill, the doctor charged about $400 for the procedure. It literally took 5 minutes. Rub it, clamp, it snip it. Easy cash: $4800 an hour. So there's an incentive.
