That woman obviously wasn't mature enough to even HAVE a baby. That is ridiculous. I don't have any boys, but my husband and I agree that if/when we do have a boy, he will not be circed until he is old enough to decide that he wants it done or not. If anyone has any ?s about how horrible a circ can get, look at the pics in the parenting forum. But, they are not for the faint of heart.
I think it's an extremely unnecessary procedure. There's no real reason behind it now, except for religious ones (some of which also adhere to female genital mutilation, which isn't considered acceptable yet the male version is). While it, in theory, keeps the penis "cleaner" open wounds can lead to infections which are waaaaay worse than having to wash the foreskin every day or so. It was adopted (or at least, this is how I heard it), in North America primarily as an anti-masturbation tool rather than for any religious or genuine medical reasons.
hmmm... im not sure what my opinion on this is.... because i can really see both ways... oh, and, when i made this thread, i was thinking of babies, i didnt even know people got circumcised later in life! oh well, you learn something new everyday, right? sorry if i posted this in the wrong forum...
I'd say, don't do it... apart from reasons having to do with risks during the surgery, consent and the inability of a baby to give or not give it, and severe pain in general, I would think it's better for a child growing up not having it done and later deciding he'd prefer having it done after all (and then being able to do so), than growing up having it done and then deciding that you actually don't want to be circumsised, with no easy (if at all available) means of reversing the procedure. The way I see it, there are no valid reasons to subject a child to this form of genital mutilation. The fact that you put this thread in body modification signals that if you'd have it done to your child (be he on his way or not) you'd not do it for religious reasons either... religious reasons with me would not count as "valid" reasons as my strong aversion to modern-day monotheistic religionscast a dark shadow over anything done on the ground of faith. But if you would do it because you believe a divine power says it should be done like that, I wouldn't stop you because though IMO you should not decide this for somebody else, you ARE his mother so if SOMEBODY decides, it should be you, and not me, or anyone else. Still, I would not want my child to go through something like that until he decides for himself that he really wants it. BTW, I love my good old atheist foreskin. *hugs it*
Um, excuse me but I just had to butt in my head for moment.... I read the foreskin is used as a masterbation tool...Now, I am female so would have no idea about this but I am intrigued. Hows does the foreskin have anything to do with masterbation? Someone please enlighten me. Francine
I think the guys have more authority over the girls in this thread, because they actually have penises. Did you mean for sexual pleasure or health issues?
im cut, i had it done when i was a few days, weeks, months sumthin really early, jewish tradidtion i dunno, i dont c were it makes a diffference imo its just easier to clean cause theres notihng to pull back and whatnot and nothing can get stuck under the flap of skin like lint or sumthin. im not sure it was done for me first cause of "health reasons" cause it would be less likely to cause problems with what ever," and second cause im jewish, and i dunno my mom wanted me to have it. plus its usualy done at such a early period in life its not remebered and cause it was done the "jewish" way for me i had wine so it was a natural anastetic, or what ever you call it. o also i had my bris i think is what the little thng is called it was performed by a docotr surgery man that was a certified rabbi(sp?)
RE: I read the foreskin is used as a masterbation tool...Now, I am female so would have no idea about this but I am intrigued. Hows does the foreskin have anything to do with masterbation? Someone please enlighten me You have some degree of a clue, because as you are having sex, your labia actually pull the small prepuce (foreskin) on your clitoris back and forth, caressing it. Of course this is a complete guess as I am cut, it was in fact done twice because the Indian intern they had do it the first time was unclear on the instructions, and the second time they cut too much skin off - in infancy - once again a cultural thing. Oh, that and the fact that doctors back then made $500 a snip for the job so it was routine until people changed it so you actually had to ask.
Well my parents never did it to me .I was born really sick and stuff so they thought it might be a bad idea.Girls have never had a problem with it .The only time someone said anythng was when i was in a locker room and that wasn't a big deal.
I think it used to be a hygene issue...and it has become a cultural one. I don't know about other uncircumcised (SP?) penises but I can tell you right now that mine has always been quite clean. This is a very appropriate forum. I think that you should embrace the body that you are born with... and be happy with your natural self.
Well, that would be a case by case basis, right? We're talking about people who do this at birth for no valid reason. "He hurt my hoo-hoo" is NOT a valid reason.
All infants are born with phimosis... and at age 17 99% are able to pull back the forskin. At 17 years of age you should be old enough to decide what is best for you. Personally I would do whatever the doctor said... but circumcising an infant because of fear of phimosis would be one of the worst excuses I have ever heard.
No, its still a hygene issue. Who give a fdsfs about the culture, it is a hygene issue. The culture doesn't decide weather or not you need to be circumsized. Your parents can decide for you as a baby, or you for yourself, nobody else has or should be given that authority. I can't believe anybody is ignorant enough to think that they get to decide if others should have penis skin or not. I think this is spawned out of insecurity over sexuality.
So Green what do you think about parents in the Sudan deciding to cut certain intimate parts off their little girls? Is it their choice to do so too?
No, in my mind, the only reason why someone who is old enough to decide for themselves would get it chopped off is not because it is dirty, but because they ARE being made fun of in the change room, and because they ARE afraid of what the opposite sex is gonna think when they see it.
