hmm, i wouldn't go that far....more that they are very mainstream, and from the old school train of thought that you *had* to circ, or the baby would have lots of medical problems. i think a lot of people genuinely don't realize that there isn't any medical reason to do it. i know they didn't.

If they were mainstream they would use a computer and look at the circumcision and realise how wrong they are.

This is SUCH SHIT! This "argument" used to be used to perform procedures like OPEN HEART SURGERY on infants using nothing but an agent which paralyzed them. Many of these babies would DIE on the table, with "no known cause." Hey, maybe they died of the pain, jerks!

I remember, about 15 years ago, Mothering Magazine interviewed some docs about these types of procedures, and one doctor (who had kids of his own) was asked "How old are children when they start to feel pain?" And this imbicile said, "About two or three years of age." Has this man EVER been around a hurt infant? This dude had been sued from parents who had their babies given Thorasic (chest) and abdominal surgeries with NO anethsia! I think this doctor may have had his license under review after a while.

Infants feel pain, how anyone who has ever been NEAR a baby could feel otherwise amazes me. A few new studies have shown that not only do infants and small children feel pain MORE than adults do, but pain, untreated in infancy could predispose the child to Chronic Pain Disorders in Adulthood.

One thing I have to say. I have seen medical circs and those done by Mohels. As much as I do not beleive in circing, the Mohel Circs not only took less tissue, but they were less nasty looking and seemed to heal faster. BUT I also know some Jewish families who do a newer ritual called "A Bloodless Bris." It contains the same ritual, but no cutting of the child.

Officials fear babies contracted herpes during circumcisions
    Wednesday, February 2, 2005 Posted: 8:06 AM EST (1306 GMT) on CNN.com
NEW YORK (AP) -- City health officials are investigating the death of a baby boy who was one of three infants to contract herpes after a rabbi circumcised them.

Ten days after Rabbi Yitzhok Fischer performed religious circumcisions on twins last October, one died of herpes and the other tested positive for the virus, according to complaint filed by the health department in Manhattan Supreme Court.

The complaint, reported in Wednesday's edition of the New York Daily News, also said health officials later found a third baby who had contracted herpes after being circumcised by Fischer in late 2003.

Under Jewish law, a mohel -- someone who performs circumcisions -- draws blood from the circumcision wound. Most mohels do it by hand, but Fischer uses a rare practice where he uses his mouth.

Fischer's lawyer, Mark Kurzmann, told the Daily News that Fischer was cooperating with the investigation, although it's unclear whether Fischer submitted to the city's request for a blood test.

"My client is known internationally as a caring, skilled, and conscientious mohel," Kurzmann said.

That is unusual, I've seen thousands of circs, and never seen this "technique" before. Yuck.

This "woman" also said that the best way to teach a baby it's colors is by using gummy bears or M&Ms. If they get the color right-they get to eat the candy. She also was in class while her poor baby was home with it's gramma with a 103 fever. She was complaining about how sick her baby was, yet wasn't home comforting him!

The color thing is kinda wrong.. esp. the candy with the high levels of additives.

But you blame her for coming to class (=working on a good future and thus providing her kid a good future) even though there was a close relative present to take care of her baby during the time she's in school? Hmm.. dunno 'bout that.. it's not like she was hanging 'round in a bar right?

oh my gosh those pictures almost made me sick, i could not imagine how i wold feel if my baby had to go thru that pain. i know they got pain killers but half the poor boys tummy was cut off.......

my son is not cut, my hubby wants to ge the one in my belly cut when he comes out but those pics scare me to death and from what i hear from doctors if the child washes his self properly there is no reason to cut it. i mean why the hell is it there in the first place, obviously it is there for a reason right............

so our appendix is necessary, and should never be removed? Not saying circumcision is alright (because it isnt' something I would ever do to kids if I ever had them) but the body does a lot of stupid things and a lot of them dont' really make sense. Just saying, not the greatest argument :D Not trying to be mean.

I don't think I would ever circumsize a kid if I had one. My first bf was partially circumsized due to an infection when he was a child, so there was medical reasoning behind it, but he seemed fine with it. It just seems like an unnescessary (sp?) procedure that causes a kid pain that they just don't need.

Aren't appendixes part of the lymphatic system? And and they only removed if they cause trouble? Same with tonsils.

Even though sometimes our bodies do things that don't seem to make sense, the things probably just don't make any sense to us. In evolution, every thing tends to develop to use up less and less energy, so why would our body waste energy to create and meintain things like tonsils and foreskins and appendixes, if they hadn't a function of some sort? Never forget, no one, even no doctors, knows everything.

Yeah I do. When children are sick, and a 103 fever is pretty sick IMO, they need their mommies to comfort them and hold them. Sure the grandma can do that, but NOTHING is more important than my kids and I would miss a day of class to make sure I was there when they needed me.

You can judge better how important those particular classes are and how easy it would be to skip them and to catch up later.. so I'll have to agree with you on this one I guess. I didn't convert the the fever to celsius so I don't know how severe 103 is.. but if it is really dangerously high, then yeah, I'd stay home as well..

That is not what I am saying. NO doctor removes an appendix at BIRTH! "Just in case there might be problems in the future." That would be malpractice. They are only removed when and if they cause a rare life threatening problem. And actually apendix problems, which require surgery, are more common than problems with an intact penis needed surgery. Rarely, does a penile problem cause death.

Also, it has been found, of late, that the appendix actually DOES inhance the immune system, just like the tonsils do. You CAN live without it, but you can live without a spleen, or your temporal lobe in your brain, or with one kidney, too, and no one is looking to take those out at birth.

Made my daughter ask the nurse at the hospital where she had her baby, just what the real reason is for circumcision. She wanted to get it done, and I didn't think it was right. The nurse told her it was mostly for COSMETIC purposes (???) uh, ok...
    (O-o-o-o-o-o-o! what a pretty penis!!!!!!!!)

my husband is pretty adamant about having our child circumcised if it's a boy. (i've got 6 months to discuss this.) mainly because there were several boys when he was growing up who were brutally tormented and teased about it by the other boys, and were considered gross by the girls. he doesn't want that happening to his boy.

Maybe you should ask your husband if he would like to go ahead and get the penile ligament cut, or get silicone strip implants in your sons penis. . . maybe your baby can have the longest, thickest, prettiest penis in the world!

Myna - tell your husband to get over his hangups.

Nobody's going to be judging your son's penis. Jesus.
