CIRCUMCISION (A sensible discussion)

I don't have a real preference for partners...whatever a man has,is just that..I'm not going to judge him either way.

Would I circumsize a son of mine? Absolutely not. Why on earth would I needlessly cut off a part of his penis? Because tradition and society say so? Not a chance. I agree with DaisyMae,it's a cruel practice.

 

I think we're going to see circumcision in the US become a much less frequent practice in the upcoming years. It's already in decline.

 

Personally I think that having a penis is great, mine is cut, but if it were uncut I would imagine I would love it just the same.
As far as sensitivity, if my penis was more sensitive I would never leave the house. As far as cleanliness, cut is easier to clean, but if you are dirty you're dirty, that’s the bottom line.
Am I going to have my sons cut? well.... not sure
Most people seem to just defend the way they are, I wouldn't take any opinion too seriously unless a person has had both and can remember to compare.

I don't know if I am, I'm pretty sure that I am though. Mine looks about the same as any other guys' that I've seen, and this is America and all. I actually didn't know until reading this thread that most European guys weren't cut, I always thought that they were with European culture being so heavily influenced by Christianity and stuff. Only recently have most parts of Europe start to become "Americanized."

Personally, I'd MUCH rather be cut at birth(assuming that I already am) because I don't even remember it at all. When I was first born, I also pissed and shot my dad right in the eye, but I don't remember it personally. You don't remember stuff like that when you're a baby. Then there is the thought of being about 15 or so, and having to make the decision for yourself... any idea how much it would probably hurt? I'm not saying that it wouldn't hurt as a baby, but it's much better to be able to forget stuff like that completely. If you're cut as a young adult, then you WILL remember the pain from that time for the rest of your life, not a very pleasant memory to keep, I'd say...

 

My boyfriend is circumsized, as have been the only other two partners I've ever had, so I don't know what I would prefer sexually. I might have my future son circumsized mainly because our friends had a child almost two months ago and if they hadn't started a circumsicion on him, they wouldn't have realized that his penis hadn't fully formed (an easily operable birth defect, he's fine now), and it may have done considerable damage if they hadn't had found out until later. It's a very rare condition, but it really freaked me out when we found that out. I dunno...I think that's a decision that Dan and I will have to make together.

I think that's rather silly, as your partner may not know much about circumcision. It's your job to educate yourself and protect your child.

As another poster pointed out, this is nonsense. I am uncircumcised, and never have odour issues. The truth is, if you don't wash, you will smell, circumcised or not, male or female. The transmission of diseases depends on the person's sexual practices. I am uncircumcised and have never had an STD, but know of circumcised people who have, and I even have a circumcised friend who is HIV+. If you use a condom, you are safe. If you choose not to wear a condom, you are always at risk.

Well then, to put it simply, perhaps your community is just stupid? I find it very hard to believe that if a woman was very close to a man, she would turn him down because he has a foreskin, which she has no logical reasons to fear. Also, how would people know if a man was circumcised or not?

 

are you one of those idiots who doesn't think a father has a say? dave knows my particular feelings on the subject, but just as he defers to me on matters of my daughter, i would defer to him on matters of his son, due to his experience and knowledge. he's also got some pretty seriously held religious views that i would respect.

i must say i feel very strongly on this issue and daisymae sums it up perfectly. but i must put in my 2 cents anyways...i would never allow anyone to cut my children's bodies if it weren't absolutely necessary for their health. social norms don't mean much to me and certainly style could never be that important...it's like "docking" dog's ears and tails cause it looks better. if that's the normal mold then it needs to be broken not adhered to. and it won't smell any worse than a females genitals unwashed. i have been with both circ. and un. and doesn't make a difference....it was the actual person inside the skin i was interested in anyhow.
