Aquarius Tony here,after Vietnam,with good earth on fell street(before Oak street compound)...15 years with Jefferson Airplane. Grace and Paul(airplane) were doing gung fu I took it up. Trained for the next 25 years in frisco & Hong Kong. Ranger showed up for acupuncture years later. Born & raised in Frisco. Live in my great grandfathers. state contractor...still ride my 1940 knucklhead just restored a 30s Packard. happy holidays to all.

 

We had heard of the commune in Oregon was having a hard time. Three of us drove to the ranch and paid up to date. Soon we were living there. Sending firewood on two of our trucks to Riddlecreek to the train stop. Were we had the lot from the old Safeway at Shrader and Haight street. Capricorn Leonard, Breeze, Tarurus John, Kid and I were the first ones to start painting the Airplanes house. Paul Kanter wanted it black. That was the color of uniforms of Gung Fu students. I lent the cash to mouse to buy the truck. Every body was against it! I told them he said he would pay us back, it never happen! Years later Kid had the truck, ask if I wanted it back. I told him no. So he kept Meg the truck. Some of Good Earth guys tried to set me up with the Hells Angels. The family was up set with trying to pay the rent at Cole and Oak Street. So they ask me to stop them. But when (6) went to the angels, lucky for me we went to the same junior high school. They talked bad about my dad(big mistake)being a original among them! I knew all this, but kept it to my self. But push come to shove. They were there for me! One time the city busted the Airplane for not having a proper fire escape at the third floor garden area. They were tearing down a old building, Mars Hotel from the 20s on third street. They loaded it on the flat bed truck I had (20 ft long) it had all the good Victorian details. We cut it down to 8'. Welded it back together and installed it. Black to match the house. Fire contractor to install ladder. With the help from two brothers from the H.A. We passed inspection! Its still there. The Grateful Dead came out with a album with the Mars Hotel and that fire escape. They gave me a back stage pass, that let me see any group, with guest list. Good family...peace

Man, I'm glad that you dropped in. Hope that you come back and read this.

 

I remember you showing me your big book about the Oracle at Delphi, one time, and telling me that you were way into it at that time. I thought that it was so cool.

One time we all went out in the truck over to clear out stuff from the old roller rink at the beach and I was blown away to watch you scale the wall and climb across the ceiling under a steel girder some 60 feet in the air to get that big hoist down to the ground. Wow. That was something.

 

Welcome home Tony, good to see you. Say hello to Sifu Ron for me please and let him know the oddness in my pulse reflected a pending heart attack no spicy food. .......4way bypass thanks to the VA cured my smoking! LOL

that 10 ton hoist we used to take out the old steam heater. At the airplanes house.Was built in the 1880s with the house. We installed a new steam heater. Cut all the pipe 2"4",threads by hand. They were happy. Always giving us projects to do. You are what you eat! I work out 3 times a week. Run 30 mins. 75 push ups, gung fu ,yoga. Drink water. Keeps your blood pressure balanced. See your doctor. Go for walks. Kenny this will keep you young and happy. Ranger, spoke to sifu Ron. He says hello and merry Christmas.

I remember all that stuff so well. I can see it in my mind and feel the vibe. I lived at Cole and Oak in 69. Then, where I was living became part of GE in 70. I lived in that white house overlooking the panhandle park for 3 or 4 yrs.

I remember when all y'all were painting/renovating The Jefferson Airplane's new place on Fell St. I believe it was their new sound studio. Most of the work was done by GE folks. Free Passes into most every concert in and out of town. Backstage passes and woohoo free access to all 'the party favors'.

I remember The Christmas Tree lot and the GE Headshop. The Hole In The Wall. I still remember most all of it. It would be impossible to forget the scene, the ppl, the places, the ones starting out as musicians, artists, etc. The Ja, Janis, Jerry, so many, all in the same place at the same time, climbing the golden ladder.

We may be old, but we knew all the good bands. We were intertwined in a conundrum of time. The Essence of Life and the Pursuit of Happiness on a Star. We were unlike anything that had come before us. A breath of fresh air. A different way of looking at things, a curiosity that took us threw many doors of alter egos and time warps, of the mind bending kind.

Ahhh,

Them were the dayz.

That old steam heater must have been one heck of a piece of work to deal with. You did explain to me how very awesome that 10 ton hoist was as a tool. I was one of the younger guys around at that time and I did think that some of the stuff that you did and were into was darn cool.

There's one of the gang for ya.

Yeah, that wood lot on the corner, with all of the Christmas trees, Stacey and Cyril talked Mister Machine (Dan who is now in Buffalo, NY. He lived in Hole in the Wall in the apartment just behind Count and Barbara's apartment. The apartment that you'd walk through.) and Me into being the night watchman of the wood lot and tree lot all night every night till everything was sold and gone. We stayed in a little 10 foot camp trailer right on the corner, living under heavy blankets with a little propane heater keeping us alive. It was gruesome but we felt good doing something for the family. Later Cyril said that all of the money went to pay for the Oregon land payments. We were happy. And no trees or wood got ripped off. We were on it like hawks.

Stacey and Sag Daryl and some others do show up here in this space once in a while. There's tons of pages to see here and lots of old faces to hear from. Come home often and be a part.

Oh, and this year, we actually filed as a Church. Incorporate filed with a state. Yes, we're putting it back together. So, be a part of us all. Your wisdom will help. We'll see if we can't still do good deeds and or change the world.

Cyril and I had found a place on 9th ave. Large garage,16' ceiling.25'x100'. Mezzanine at front, above garage. This became his paint studio. We bought a coors beer truck and a flat bed, 8'x12'. About this time a candle factory burn down, around 6th street. They had no insurance. We made a deal,we will clear the lot for all the wax and machine. We took 80 tons of wax,11lb blocks. Some fused together back to 9th ave. Made hand dip candles. Sold it thru the head shops all over bay area. Artists came around and did some cool carvings. museum quality. We traded that wax for tools scaffolding ect.

 

Indians had taken over Alcatraz. Ken Ross(aries) got together with this indian princess. They lived at lower Cole. I was living near the back, off kitchen, had loft. One nite Frances came to spend the nite with me. Next morning one of my old girlfriends climbed the ladder to say hello. Frances slid down under the sheet. Thanks Frances, it was then she told me she had been checking me out for several weeks. Frances and the Indian princess were from Canada. Cyril gave us his yellow Chevy pick. Ken and I built a camper. 14 days later droped Ken and princess at Indian reservation. As Frances and I enter city of Montreal. She said, I want to get married ,ect. ect. This is how its going to be! Her dad, mom brothers treated me as one of the family. Four months later they were both crying at the train station(Frances & mom). I was not ready to be married at that time. I moved to the Woodland house. Some time later a girl name spider and I crashed out together. Soon after that Frances arrived. We spent one nite together. Next she moved in with mouse, then Kid. One of the girls had told her I spent the nite with spider. Months later Breeze and I were at upper Cole hanging out. In comes Frances saying she was leaving tomorrow for Canada. Breeze says to me shes trying to talk to you. I told him I had nothing to say. My ego? She left. We did talk around 1998, I wished her the best

 

I was staying at lower Cole street garage ,rear room. Cyril and I had built the floor out of 2x4s on edge. All of a sudden there was screaming. We were being raided by the S.F.P,D. I made it to the alley way just as this plain clothes guy ran by. In my underware, shoes and pants in hand jump the fence up to Haight street. They busted a lot people that day. Airplane gave me the funds for the bail. So then we built a second heavy wood door. Behind the glass door to upper Cole. Back stairs we built 3 doors. We were having a party at upper Cole. They raided us again. They could not get thru the front door. So they went to the back. They got thru the first door, around they came up the stairs to the second door , could not get thru , they called in the S.F.F.D. By that time we had moved everyone , ect. thru the light well were we had built a ladder. Turned of the music. By the time they got to the last door. We open he door. Saying whats up? They were I guess really upset with us. Nothing came of it ,we were adults having a good time. Later we had a meeting with then supervisor Diane Finestein to try a common ground for peace...

 

O.m.g. Tony m. Mike bedell here. Its been a long time my brother, im so glad you showed up i found my way back home a bit over a year ago and you have been on my mind all that time but to be honest i was fearful to ask about you bc i didnt want to feel the disappointment that would come upon me if you had passed, moved or disapeared. Leslie and i both live in marin co. Though not together. I would love to meet up with you soon but we'll hold off on that till after youve had time to settle in, catch up and feel at home here. Keep posting and welcome home tony.

Mike ...to be honest with you. might you have been fearful of something you did. I saw you a few years later at some gig up north. We talked some and you said Leslie is here and when I turned around you disappeared. I remember seeing you around and to say hi and bye. Until you needed some help. You takeing off the way you did was a disappointment. I had to cover the lost.
