I’m happy to say all of my pain is still self-inflicted (when I don’t get enough sleep, When I don’t eat right, or if I work-out too vigorously)

My muscles hurt 24/7 as if I worked out too much and they fatigue as if I've done 15 reps when I'm normally doing 10... (reps as in lifting or whatever) That's when I'm doing basically nothing compared to 15 years ago and they hurt back then. Add arthritis and degenerated discs to that...

that's pretty much where i am too. i do have occasional knee issues, but even that only really comes up if i'm putting an unusual amount of pressure on them for some reason.

although on the subject of self inflicted pain, i probably should mention that i've gotten old enough that hangovers now last about 3 days rather than 3 hours like when i was younger.

Ok, i mention this a lot, but it's worth mentioning again, imho.

Acupuncture works great for chronic musculoskelatal pain, and for a lot of other things too. The only down side that i'm aware of is that it's often quite expensive. If you live near an acupuncture school, they sometimes have low cost student clinics that offer quality care.

If you haven't talked to an md about physical therapy, it might be worth looking into. A qi gong style that is suited to your symptoms might be worthwhile.

Pain meds would probably help with the symptoms, but may not be worth any side effects/addiction.

There are books on acupressure self-massage that may be worth looking into. If you learn more about the subject, one or two visits to an acupuncturist might help in refining your approach.

Acupuncture exacerbated things for me. If not for yoga I would cripple quickly.

Weed would help... If you have any, I don't.

Physical therapy? How about cutting down trees, cutting and splitting firewood... My only source of heat.

Edit to say when not cutting wood I'm rebuilding my house.

Me neither, unless you count some teeth that have gone over the years. Got another one going loose - won't be long before I'll have to have it pulled.

I used to live in a place with only open fires, but it was getting impossible to cope because of acute shortness of breath, so now I'm running on gas. Trouble is, that creates a lot of condensation, which then causes black mould, which isn't good for me either.

There could be a number of explanations. One is that you may have had a crappy acupuncturist. Another is that sometimes you can go through a healing crisis that temporarily makes things feel worse.

I've heard that some people just don't respond to treatment well, but I've never heard of anyone getting worse in the long run when treated by a qualified acupuncturist.

In any case, I'm glad that yoga is working for you. Once you've learned it, it's free to practice, so if it's working, that's a good deal.

I never claimed that I have heard from very many patients about their experiences with acupuncture. The people that have had acupuncture that I have talked to all speak highly of it, except for the dope.

Site a source for "the billions of people where acupuncture failed"

In at least some cases, access to conventional medical care is intentionally resctricted to reduce costs.

Wait time for service is not neccessarily well correlated with results.

I was told, when I mentioned acupuncture to my chiropractor (and an MD) that it was not a good idea for me to block all pain from spinal

injuries because the LACK of a pain signal pain would/could mask a situation that needed attention. Now mind you that this particular chiropractor has been a minor god to me. I have gone into his office bent over with pain--tears involuntarily streaming because of it---and was

absolutely FIXED. Sore for a couple of days , but then back on the roof virtually pain free for 6 months--a year. So---my point is that if I hadn't been able to feel the pain---I would have carried on and maybe broken another disc.

Pain does act as a warning sign. I've had the experience where I've had severe back pan, taken painkillers and been ok, only for it to get much worse later on. It's not good to mask that kind of pain because you can definitely worsen things quite a bit.

I don't think it's necessarily the objective of acupuncture to block all pain. Also, pain is only one of the many things that acupuncture treats.

If you feel like chiropractic treatments are working well for you, I don't see any reason to stop.

If it were muscles, ligaments or something like that--acupuncture would be OK for me. But it's my actual spine where a disc will slip out of place causing the muscles to Seize UP BAD. From all these years of hard work, my spine looks like a snake --curved this way and that way.
