It seems we are harder on ourselves then other people are sometimes. I am that way also.

That's good, though-it's good to have a conscience. It seems like not that many people have one nowadays.

No, if you were trying to be "nice" you could have worded your post a lot better. I wasn't the only one who took what you said to be a swipe at me.

Do you ever moan, or complain about things that would seem extremely trivial compared to the plight of say, starving kids in the third world? I'd be willing to bet that you have moaned about things way more trivial than what I've had to live with, let alone those living in the third world. And if you have never moaned about anything trivial, then hey, you're better than most of us on this planet, and give you back your right to get on your high horse. If however, like the vast majority of people, you have complained about things that to others would be extremely trivial matters, then I'd suggest you look in the mirror, before taking such a righteous attitude.

I myself, get very guilty for hating my life when I know there are those who are even worse off than me. Even though I've been told by many that I shouldn't feel this way. Do you critique yourself I wonder? Or are you beyond criticsm of any kind?

And how do you know I never smile? Just because it's a rare occurance, doesn't mean it never happens. I try to make the best of a very bad lot, and I do find things to enjoy in life. Despite the overall hopelessness and despair of my situation.

Even if you do know a little bit about my situation (and it's far less than you probably think you know) that doesn't give you the right to judge as if you actually know me, my life, and the terrible consequences certain things have had on it. You certainly have no right to get on your high horse about it, that is for sure.

You say life is a gift. I put it to you, if you were in my shoes, you may very well have a different view on that. And it's very easy to criticise a person when you've never had to live in their shoes.

No, you're a happy person, because you've probably had it far better than a lot of people in this world. And even if I'm wrong about that, if you don't want to be judged by others who barely know you, then maybe you shouldn't be so quick to do that yourself. If after all I've said, you still can't find anything arrogant in your attitude towards me, than I can't really say anymore, as I'm wasting my time.

    No one else said anything?

I didn't mean it as a swipe at you. You seriously took it the wrong way. How else could I have worded it? "Hey, things could always be worse so cheer up" ? Because thats what I essentially meant.

I like to add color to my words.

of course. Then I remind myself that I could have my sight taken away, or my hearing, and then I would be painfully aware that there were parts of my life or body that were perfect.

so you see, I take "swipes" at myself too.

Look, I remember my exact train of thought when I made that comment. I was thinking that the happiest I've been has not been with a significant other, spending a night enjoying each others company or having sex. I'm most happy when I can drink in nature with my eyes.

Obviously, what makes me happy isn't going to make you happy, but I was following the train of thought that you possessed senses that could take in parts of the world that are able to make you happy.

It honestly was an innocent remark.

Maybe, but for some reason I doubt it. I had to go through a really bad time to discover that attitude is everything and a positive outlook makes a difference. So I hopefully would learn the same lessons in your shoes.

No, I'm a happy person because I've had it far better than a lot of people in this world and I KNOW it and remind myself of it on a daily basis.

There are people who have had it far better than me who are miserable pricks. The cards one is dealt is not a predictor of happiness. Happiness is decided by attitude.

I wasn't judging you. I was telling you to look for the good in life. Sorry for the unwarranted advice. You kind of have to expect things like that when you post in a public forum that has regulars that are familiar with your posts.

Not in this thread no. In PMs to me, yes.

Well, if you had said those words, I wouldn't have taken it as a swipe. Maybe I did take what you said the wrong way, but the way you worded it, it was very easy to take the wrong way.

Just because I am aware there are people in the world better off than me, doesn't mean the parts of my life and body which are far from perfect suddenly become so. But my situation is very uncommon, and I can't really expect anyone who hasn't had to live with this to understand it. But even though I do have to put up with far more than the average person, I still am not so self-absorbed that I can't realise there are those worse off than me.

There are degrees of being worse-off in life. It's not black and white. Some people have it better than others, and some people have it worse. Just because there are those worse off than me, doesn't mean I don't have reason to be unhappy. At least I realise there are people worse off than me, and I do feel guilty for being depressed and upset. Even though I've been told I shouldn't feel guilty about that. There are people who DO have perfect bodies, and great lives who STILL find things to complain about. Which is something that angers me no end.

Even without all my physical and life problems, I am far off from being the person I aspire to be. Because I wish I could be stronger, and just shrug off all the horribleness I have to put up with every day, but I'm not. All I can do, is keep striving to be a better person. Believe me, I criticise myself far more harshly than most people possibly could.

It is good you can take swipes at yourself. Most people in this world should do that, but don't. But it really is far easier to put down others, than it is to put yourself down. The best way of making yourself look better, is by making someone else look small.

I can accept what you said was an innocent remark, but like I said, it was very easy to take what you said the wrong way. And I'm sorry for doing so.

Again, wording was key to my reaction. On the internet especially, it's very easy to misread what someone's intentions are.

Because the vast majority of people do not. And certainly, there are people far better off than me who do not do that. They are usually very quick to criticise others though.

Generally, people do not critique themselves as much as they criticise others. Mainly because criticising others is far easier than to look within and fix what is wrong with themselves.

You would be a very rare person if you were. But as I just said, many people believe themselves to be beyond critcism, even though the vast majority of us, are not. Which is why I said that.

Well, compared to a lot of people, I do have nothing, but I can still smile. Although I admit it isn't often.

It is when you're making out like the person has no real reason to feel upset or aggrieved. And by saying I would feel like my body was "perfect" if I acknowledged there are people worse off, was pretty much doing that.

Just because having your head chopped off would be prefferable to being flayed, doesn't make having your head chopped off a pleasurable experience. A strange metaphor I know, but it still works. lol

In any case, you jumped to the wrong conclusion that I wasn't looking for happiness. I guess we both misinterpreted each other then. ;)

I would have to be a very strong person to be overall, happy most of the time. And I do not pretend to be a strong person. All I can do, is try every day to be a better person. There are people far more priviledged than I, and indeed, the average person is more priviledged. Yet, I probably criticise myself far more than most of these people, for being depressed over my lot. I'm not a perfect person, in fact, I am far from being perfect. But I've never pretended to be so.

I think I may be a weak person for feeling so despairing of my pain, and I probably am. But I don't think that makes me a bad person, even if at times I feel as though that is exactly what it makes me.

And I do. You just jumped to the conclusion that if I'm depressed over my situation, that I can't be doing that. But I can assure you that I do.

After reading all of that I beleive Invisible Soul and Meliai have found some common ground. We should all remember that it is not easy to tell how someone is saying something in writing. Things can be easily taken the wrong way, and I am just as guilty as many others and sometimes read things in a different way than how they were meant.

Me and Meliai have sorted everything out through PM. ;)

Well, she admitted that she was very blunt with that post, which is why it was so easy for me to take the post in a negative way. We have both apologised to each other through PM, and I think that's everything cleared up now. :)

In regard to the condition with my eyes - Twice before when I've had this condition flare, I've had to go to the Neurologic Opthamologist. I'm not going to complain about why but I haven't been able to see a doctor this time. I had medication left over from the last flare up 6 years ago. I've been taking it for several weeks hoping that it would still work. Yesterday, I believe I began to see an improvement in my vision! Hopefully, a few more weeks of this medication and I will have it under control again!

Over Here Most Eye Medications Have An Expiry Date Of 14 Days

And Carry A Warning NOT To Use Them After That, Even

If They Have Been Stored In Your Fridge As You Are

    Supposed To Do With Them...:)

    Cheers Glen.

This is an oral medication: tablets. The condition is called Pseudotumor Cerebri. It is an over-production of spinal fluid, cause unknown. The increase in spinal fluid causes an increased pressure in your head that mimics a brain tumor. Besides causing headaches, dizziness, and ringing in the ears, it causes swelling of the optic discs which can cause blindness if the pressure doesn't come down.
Normally, the doctor would photograph my optic discs and do vision field tests.
The first course of treatment if the swelling isn't too severe is the oral medication. If the swelling is severe and they need to get the pressure down in a hurry they do spinal taps. Some people have it recur and have to have shunts placed to drain the fluid out of their skulls.
I've been a little fearful not having the doctor check the amount of swelling and not knowing if the tablets were still any good but I actually do think I'm noticing some improvement.
Oh, also I'm not as dizzy as I have been!
