But yes, you're right... I don't care. It might sound racist to you, yet you'll never catch me saying "niggers are stealing our economy" or "niggers are ruining our white protestant culture!". If I ever do use it, it's in a joking manner. I don't mind it if people make Jew jokes. You don't mind it when people make Texas jokes. Stereotypes are to be laughed at. Getting so worked up over a simple word only gives it more strength which allows the people who do use it in a racist way to further bug you.

I tend to agree with that. I don't mind if people use the words ****** or cryto-jew or whatever if it's used in the right context.

But if it's not being done with some finesse it's less likely to be perceived as something culturally relevant, and more something shocking for the purpose of being cruel. Even if you don't intend it that way, it takes more finesse than you're giving it.

And in the context of that serious response above, throwing the word around is just pointlessly thoughtless. You weren't using language as a tool to challenge people about their perceptions there. You were just throwing it around drunkenly.

Honestly, I don't think you're a racist. But it's overbearing.

Whenever I talk to Christians I always end up telling them that I'm just going to have to take their word for it.

I doubt that's the kind of response they're looking for.

 

Hell, I don't even think that I use it that much. Only used it in this thread because Matt pointed it out to begin with in order to contrast jokes with racist terms in them, to just plain racism. You don't have to say "****** this" or "****** that" in order to show that you hate black people. Just like you don't have to call everyone "kikes" in order to illustrate that you hate Jews.

So yes, I was subtly using it "as a tool to challenge people about their perceptions there". Yet I must admit that it's extremely easy for me to throw that word, or any word around. I like words, I enjoy using them. I'm not going to limit myself from using a word just because the word itself offends somebody, no matter what context it is used in.

 

In the context it didn't seem like a matter of needing to limit yourself.

It just seemed like a matter of poor taste.

 

If you want to fix poor taste, then talk to most of the people who post here instead of me. They might need your help more.
