I looked it up and got varied statistics. But somewhere between 50-70% self identify as Christians ie.. Catholic, Protestant, Methodist, Baptist etc..This is U.S. military . So, these guys and girls join the military. Let's say Jonny Christian joins the Marine Infantry. He is deployed and goes and kills an Iraqi Christian or any Iraqi for that matter..How is this loving your neighbor? What part of "though shall not kill" did you not understand? A true Christian takes a neutral stance on politics and wars and does not put himself in a position to kill another human.
Christians also have duty to follow the rule of the land and killing isn't always murder as the commandment in the original language meant "murder" not kill.
Nobody is primarily a christian. We're all true human beings at the core. Anyway, OP is entitled to his opinions. Hope he's aware they're just that. I'm saying this because he sounds kind of like a dogmatic preacer.
Probably most Christians who join up are only nominally Christian. It's part of the culture into which they happened to be born.It isn't the main driver behind their decisions. There are also Christians who are pacifists.
they do. But always obey God rather than men and will not do things that break God's Commandments. Thus, the consciousness objector
Well, it always becomes more acceptable when it is out of defense. Many people in history have joined the army to defend their home and country. Always be wary of people who ramble about a 'true' anything. Most likely they're merely trying to convince you of their own personal convictions, not an absolute truth regarding believers in God. True believers in God come in all forms. That you disagree with the fact they are different than you does not change that. Learn to deal with, I would say.
again, there is a world of difference between "kill" and "murder". the OT commandments forbade committing murder, not killing in defense or as soldier. the whole "Christians are supposed to be pacifists" is BS with no real scriptural basis. if you believe it is as black and white as you imply, please explain God not punishing all the Hebrew soldiers for killing enemies in battle? or why did Jesus admonish his followers to arm themselves for defense?
JC also said 'turn the other cheek'. So really I think it's equivocal. Up to the individual to decide if they are ready to kill or not. Thing is, if every individual decided killing isn't acceptable, we'd see an end to war. But we're in a world where we're a long way from anything like that.
We are human beings and inside us is an internal judge that God installed and it is called a conscious and also guilt. For the concious to work it has to be trained. Murdering or killing is an easy one because we all know the consequences if we were to kill or murder. (Same in my opinion) in a war situation, if we were to kill someone, although a hero to the military, you have now taken a life. P.T.S.D. hardcore drug use, alcoholism and suicide soon follows for some if not the majority. If you recall, when Jesus was taken into custody, Peter drew his sword and sliced off the high priest ear. Jesus admonished him and said that all those who live by the sword, die by the sword. Also, does anyone recall what Jesus said the 2nd greatest commandment was? At Isaiah 2:4 is a great scripture. It says that they will beat thier swords into plowshares and thier spears into pruning shears and that nation will not lift up sword against nation and they won't learn war anymore.
If you look at the examples of Moses and Joshua, it's pretty clear that you don't have to worry about God punishing you for murdering anyone.
What were the crusades then? How did americans acquire america? How did christianity start in a country full of non christians? Every religion has good and bad. Military is both good and bad. Killing is good and bad. Doing your job in the line of service to the nation puts yourself below your duty
Jesus ful filled the mosaic law. He made the new law love. Love for your God and love for your fellow man. Not much love going on if you are killing someone.
Civil war was american killing americans as an arguement about slavery even though both sides had slaves
Many railroads were built using chinese imigrants that died during construction but they were expendable
The flag stands for the union of 50 states, 13 orinial colonies and all those that died in service of our country
