My family moved to a very small town in North Dakota in 1958, We had no running water BUT we had a pump in our front yard,it was my job to fill the bucket with water every morning. In the winter I filled pails with snow for my mother to wash our clothes in, she used a ringer type washer with rinse tubs, snow water is so much softer. TV was on the air 2 or 3 hours a day, including news. We had no indoor plumbing either. It was quite a change,,moving from Minneapolis, to Taylor, a town of 100, I loved it,,my mother hated it
I'll take it if you don't want it. Or, we could learn to use it together. Is it a Singer and are you a swinger? .
I'm going to assume that the chore of climbing down the castle-shitholes in England,to keep them "clean" for the royalty doesn't exist any more, although I'm sure royal shit smells like carnations.
This thread makes me laugh at my step sons(18&21 this year). They're both good kids, but so spoiled & lazy it's not even funny. When our dishwasher was broke,we took turns with dishes, but as soon as it was fixed,it was me or the ol' lady doin em.Takin the trash out is me damn near every time, cuz they'll pitch a fit.The oldest won't even clean out his own cats litter box,I do.About the hardest thing they do is feed the dogs,or open the door to let em in or out.I've been unemployed for a while now,so I've been fixing our house up.the only time I can get the oldest to help me is if he's wantin his mom to pick him up beer that night.Don't get me wrong, she buys me alot of beer too,but I at least try to compensate,& anytime I do get an odd job she gets half.I'm a carpenter,so my line of work is really slow right now,& my wife understands that. But half the kids that come up here are high school drop outs(oldest step son included)who waste their days playing video games,& live off mom & or dad,& only work if they need weed money.I stopped saying anything to my ol' lady about it,cuz I aint their dad,not tryin to overstep my bounds. But kids nowdays are fucking lazy.I had my stepson help me on a drywall job,& he sat down more than he did work. He's bigger & stronger than me,but I'm a heavy smoker, daily drinker(all day every day)& former crackhead, almost 32.He's goin on 21 & I will work circles around that boy even on my worst day.The only thing he can do faster is work a x-box controller.before I moved in,my now-wife was the only one who would mow the lawn.I don't think the youngest even knows how to start a mower.I bitch, gripe,& kinda laugh about it,but really it's fucking sad
i too remember the days when we would just about put tinfoil all around the room trying to get all 3 network stations to come in clearly, usually we ould be able to get the 3 big networks, but living close to the area of an air force base everytime the a-10s or warthogs flew over, it would scramble the signal, ahhh some good memories there!
My girl friend still uses a Maytag ringer type machine and hangs her clothes on lines. Some things last,I guess.
clothes on clothes lines smell better and sometimes you want them to bleach in the sun, plus you save energy, plus all that junk in the lint trap is you clothes from wearing out peace Delfynasa
i remember when we only had 3 channels,my parents were like huhhh we have 3 channels now why would we want a remote control tv? lol now everybody sits around the tv and bitches and moans about missing their latest show because we couldnt tune it fast enough he he he
I still wash dishes by hand, hang the clothes out to dry, hand wash the delicate ones, don't have any fancy, electric gardening tools or any of that shit and I only vacuum once a week (use a broom the other days). I never, ever cook preprepared meals and a microwave will enter this house over my dead body! When any relatives come to stay they quite willingly (I hope) take their turn at dish washing, clothes hanging out etc.
Me too. Me too. Me too (if that!) I fail I hated not having a microwave, I always had to wait for my ice cream to soften.
going in to he store to get dads cigarettes, getting up to change the channel on the t.v. adjusting the tracking on the v.c.r.
I can't beleive it!!My oldest step-son helped me put up a clothesline!!!He even mowed half the yard!I had to finish it of course,& he had his mom get him like 2 cases of beer for doing it,but at least he got off his ass for something.
As part of the family he should take responsibility for the smooth running of things. Bribery shouldn't be an option. But needs must sometimes. My grandson does nothing at home but when he comes here on his own he makes the bread, takes the dog out and all sorts of things without being coerced.
