VIOLIN!!! If you're going to take lessons take the one that applies to the most other instruments and is the hardest. Violin is the most difficult out of those hands down, so therefore you would benefit most from having professional lessons in that. Plus with the dexterity of your hands and knowledge of string instruments you will be able to switch fairly easily to the: Guitar, Viola, Cello (and maybe double bass). Plus the violin is the most versatile instrument on earth, with the most music written for it. Definitely violin, not even a question.

By that logic, should everyone who wants to learn guitar just not bother because there are already tons of guitar players? Who cares if there are a lot of other students-- it's what you do with your instrument that will truly set you apart, not your choice of instrument.

    you should choose:

protest about not being able to play the lute.

seriously you should just go for the lute.
