There was a big movement in the UK to try and stop the invasion of Iraq by the British government of the time headed by Tony Blair, I was part of that movement. We put up many reasons why the invasion was wrong ill advised and shouldn’t go ahead and we made some predictions about possible adverse outcomes. At the time we were told we were wrong. Later things turned to shit and seemed to prove us right no WMD’s, no real plan once the ‘war was won’ and an outcome that is even worse than any we predicted. And today we have been officially vindicated, yeah well thanks, I feel so much better now. So what do you think can we charge Bush and Blair with war crimes now?
We've waited a very long time for this - too long really. It's possible but I think unlikely that Blair or Bush will ever face censure or charges, although I think they should both be on trial. Given the report's findings, all that's left in the way of justification is that Saddam was removed. But yesterday I read a quote from an Iraqi who said 'now we have thousands of Saddams'.
We all could have told them that years ago. How long did it take them to get to that conclusion and how much did this report cost?
Who's going to charge and convict them? The US pretty much runs the show. It would have to be a kangaroo court.
I think they should be charged with war crimes and crimes against humanity...at the International War Crimes Tribunal. Their Saudi Helpers and Partners should be charged right alongside of them. The whole deal was about control of the oil fields. Blair and Bush couldn't care less about freedom for the Iraqi people.
Yeah that's what I guessed. Well now you're out of the EU you gonna have shitloads of extra cash, right? No problem then.
There seems to be a new myth being peddled by those that took the decision to invade and occupy Iraq. It basically goes along these lines – whatever happened in Iraq and the wider Middle East after the invasion had nothing to do with that invasion. David Frum a speech writer for Bush said - "There was an opportunity for a better future for Iraq," he says. "Why that wasn't seized is a story that is vastly more about Iraq than it is about the US." going on to blame the Iraq people for everything that happened, even though the US was in control and did all the fuck ups. Blair says he’d do it again because he thinks things might have been worse if they hadn’t invaded so it’s not his fault for the present situation in Iraq because it would have been worse, which makes no sense. It is an amazingly bold lie and totally irrational and irresponsible.
