Oh yeah, I didn't even think of that. I was like going through the pieces and said to myself there's no K! What a fool!
I got it in a novelty store actually you know liked signed memorabilia and statues of things and stuff. This caught my eye and I'd always liked medieval stuff and this is pewter but you're right it's totally me. I have never actually played anybody on it though. Maybe I'm too afraid to lose the first match on it, so it sits in view but unused. I have a smaller traditional one I use when I play and I've also had 2 electrical boards as my parents got me one every few Christmas years. I was a pretty nerdy chess opponent. I couldn't start well, but I could keep in the game with very little and really make people work for it. A few years ago I got into chess.com and downloaded the app and played on their and learned a little bit how to start better. I learned if you could move your 2 rooks, bishops, knights, queen and castle your king in the first 10 moves, you're in a pretty solid position. The last game I played was a while ago after a big hiatus and I was so thrilled when I won because it was a really hard and tactical match and I threw the bait out there and he took it and completely screwed himself. I remember it well.
I started playing when I was about 10, the spring/summer after my mom died. It was challenging and gave my mind something to do. So I read every chess book in our small library and joined the USCF not long after. Played in a few tournaments and did OK, but I really needed a coach. I still like it but am badly out of practice. I like your set, I had a medieval set once but it was cheap and made out of plastic. Now I use a standard tournament chess set.
Chess is all about strategy, knowing your opponent, enticement and feints in order to succeed - it is more than a game, it can show a persona of individuality
I used to go to the library at lunch time in HS to play chess. Only girl there. I'm glad you say it's very individualistic because it really is. Lots of people think the way you win is by attacking everything but I play a real defensive game, I won't really do much in the initial stages, I prefer to be attacked and to defend it. Setting up forks along the way and traps. I don't particularly like timed matches though as I believe it forces opponents to make rash decisions they otherwise would not make. I'm really into pool and billiards too and one day several years back I was playing a defensive sive game of pool and really reading the table and my opponent asked me if I played chess which I said yes I do and he said "you can tell by the way you play pool" and I don't think the two are that far apart, I do link chess and pool pretty closely. Sometimes when you come to the table and your opponent sank 6 balls and you're well behind, your balls all of a sudden are pawns and you try and hide the cueball behind them etc. Learning avenues and traps not too dissimilar to chess tactics. I'm the only one who got into chess. None of. Y 3 sisters, my mum and dad learned so that I could play at home. One of my best matches was with a boy named Anu and a teacher proposed a match to us. I played and Anu was at my side and admittedly he was a touch better than me at this time so he advised me of moves. He saw things I couldn't but I would see things that he couldn't. The match went way over lunch time but the teacher wouldn't budge, and we finally beat him. He stood up and said well played and shook our hands. I bet he was fuming that 2 teens outplayed him. On chess.com I even found Anu maybe 3 years ago, we played a match and I think I went down barely. Was good to chat to him, he went on with a life of chess whereas I turned to pool now.
I play it on my phone. Many years ago I carved a chess board out of leather, i still have it...but nobody ever wants to play chess around me.
Shit that added me a thread count. I was fooled as I saw it in forum games...but it is in mind games, too.....just like I lost track of my post count before forum change. I never wanted to get over 15,299...and now I have to get through the 53's somehow...Don't want to end on them.at all. Anyway, I don't really like playing board games ...so i don't play them or card games...or any games...pretty boring, I know.
just a wood pusher. haven't played in years. have this strange idea of using a six sided board for 3 simultanious players, and indiginous spirit creatures for the major pieces. coyote would be the knights, foxes the bishops maybe, bears the rooks maybe. of course every culture none of them were the same. just one of endless ideas. not really around anyone enough to play anything with anyone.
mind trips this whole section is called mind trips...forum games is the first sub forum of the main section called mind trips it doesnt count twice...nothing gets posted twice
mind trips? ok, 53 means Bernie for me now, so I am good.... I knew I would claw my way out of that bag sooner or later.... She is like an octopus you can't get away from....ew. Just didn't want her to think I was up for anything.
