I am a Canadian, and there are many cheap lots for sale. realtor.ca is a site where you can search for vacant land. some of the deals I have seen; 39 acres for 7,500$ cdn 81 acres for 13,000$ cdn 160 acres for 38,000$cdn These sort of deals pop up all the time from Manitoba and east. The best locations to search are Manitoba, Northern Ontario (north of North nay), New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia. Each area has its own ups and downs, but all of them would make great spots for communes as most of the properties are very remote. Often the taxes on the properties range from 80-400$ per year, crazy low!
Yes, it's true, winter is a thing in Canada. These properties are large enough to offer the resources needed to comfortably make it through the winter. Of course, if you have lived your entire life in California, these places may not be suitable for you. However, if you are looking to experience all the seasons, and live very far from the "civilized" world, then these are good choices.
One of these 2 bedroom houses in north London has just sold for more than 2 million pounds. The rear garden is just a small yard.
That would be awful cold for our hippie retirement community. I'm in North Dakota about 150 south of the border. It's -15 without the wind chill this morning.
