i couldnt believe the last vw i worked on...guy wanted his timing belt done and the camshaft sprocket is actually just held on with a bolt...no splines no keyway no pins or anything else.....just a tight bolt is the only thing stopping it from turning a bit and smashing all the valves...kind of crazy

it was a turbo diesel...maybe a golf or jetta i dont remember which

I tend to be pleased with my car as long as it is running. :)

I am very thankful that I have a mechanic that is honest and does a great job when I need something done.

Yeah an honest mechanic is hard to find. There is a big difference between what the shady ones call "preventative maintenance" and maintenance you need to keep the car running. I worked for Toyota for a while as a service adviser. Basically I was the customer representative who told you what is broken and made sure the mechanics did that job. It was commission based and I got in a lot of trouble for doing what I thought of as planting a seed of trust. I am honest about the little things so you trust me when a big thing comes up. But honest meant sometimes I did not charge them much if anything for little things. This cut into my bosses salary. But I am not going to rip off some little old lady or middle class parent to whom a repair is a big expense. Not long after I left the job the dealer lost their license from Toyota due to low customer satisfaction. So they were not allowed to buy the new cars from Toyota and put them on their lot and they lost the official Toyota endorsement to fix their cars. So no more warranty work. Every other adviser there was dishonest I was not surprised.

im more just lazy than honest

i hurt too much to be fixing shit that doesnt need fixing so i just do what absolutely needs to be done

my favourite thing to say when someone wants a brake job is "are they grinding on metal yet?"....depending on the answer i either fix them or tell them to buy the parts so theyre handy and call back when theyre grinding

I cut grass and raked sticks until I got a big ole blister between the thumb and index finger. I even had on gloves, and it was popped by the time I got my gloves off.

The Mother is going to drive me crazy. I find it strangely reassuring that there is a state mental health facility (institution) about 9 or 10 miles from here. :)
