I'm going to try and make toasted ham cheese presses in a minute. My shoulder and arm is a lot better. Still sore a bit but no where near what it was. At the moment I'm up and active.. When it gets cold I get sore and need to rest.

Looking into a solar system to run my well pump and the hot water heater.... Gonna get a new hot water heater too and tie it into the wood burning furnace with a hot water to force air heat exchanger. Should work two ways... when there's no fire in the furnace hot water heats the house, not "hot" but warm enough to keep it tolerable. When I fire up the wood furnace it should heat water and store it in the hot water heater, plus heat the house with forced air. Heat exchanger should work both ways... [IMG]

The solar system should keep this whole thing "off grid" but with the capability to run on grid if the battery power gets low. It's a nice system... USA made too.

Orison needs to help me design this system.... Sometime when he's not so drunk. [IMG]

We had a bear outside our door. He scratched the hell out of my truck seat but the huge claw marks on it it remind me that it was better I was not there. Door was unlocked and I guess he opened it somehow. I hope he dosn't come back, we have those bear proof trash cans but I still think maybe a food smell enticed him. If so he will definitly come back.

Bears usually don't like humans, they generally run away if you make a bunch of noise. One that tore up your truck is going to be a problem. Sometimes "animal control" will catch it and release it somewhere where it can't cause problems. Call the Sheriff and ask about removal, they will know who to call.

Will this work for deer too? I like the deer but just not in my gardens. I need something that just keeps them out of my back and front yard, but doesn't make them leave the property..

I don't have any "bullet throwing device". I do have a huge hunting knife with like a 8 inch blade that I carry when going outside at night that in theory would protect me if anything attacked. I rely on that and making allot of noise and flipping on the lights to scare anything away. This was recomended by the neighbors to protect against mountain lions which seem to have less fear of people then a bear.

I will try the black pepper. I don't want animal control to hurt it but I know once they loose their fear of people it is tough to manage them.

Animal control should relocate it without hurting it. If it ever attacks a human they may do something different though... Better to have it done before it gets to that point.

I had a bear in California, but he only came around maybe 4-5 times in 4 years that I had that cabin... He would run when I went out and yelled at him...
