i'm making chickpea and ricotta gnocchi tonight. hopefully it turns out. it sounds strange, but everything i've tried from this cookbook has been good so far, so i'm going to have faith.

we're having a relaxing night making dinner together, drinking wine, and watching a movie :)

then tomorrow friends are coming over and we're going out to the bar.

I like to have plans for the weekend because it makes me more productive with schoolwork since I need to get it all done during the day.

we always have rice vinegar on hand for sushi :)

i'm trying to eat more beans/legumes, which means experimenting with different recipes. although I do like a plain old bean salad with an olive oil/lemon juice dressing. sometimes simple is best.

my most trustworthy and go-to cookbook right now is a Taste of Home Cooking binder. it was on sale a couple of years ago. every recipe ive tried has turned out great, and it properly explains how to adjust for altitude (which is really important)

i also have a Fannie Farmer cookbook, my dad's old Joy of Cooking (i replaced it for him, and took the beat-up tome of my childhood, duct-tapped the binding back together) a ToHC slow-cooker cookbook, a cast-iron cookbook, and a women's home companion, from the 40's. i have others, but those are my go-to cookbooks.

i have been trying to eat more beans and such as well. chickpeas are nummy nummy. sometimes i find dried stuff to taste dusty though, even when rinsed before cooking. its not too bothersome for me, but it is weird. i like a lot of mild, sneaky flavors, beans do well for that. hubby and i love split pea soup, im a sucker for black-eyed peas. the boy eats whatever we put in front of him.
i might make split pea soup with sausage tonight. hmmm, i think ill use the french apple chicken sausage.

I told my BIL that claims (operative word) he is going to get me a computer this year when they visit that I would HAVE to have a mouse. lol

    :2thumbsup:

I remember going to my grandparent's house and there would be parts that were closed off and if you went in there, they had to be 45 deg or below!

We (cousins) didn't do much snooping there. lol

I really should eat better...as in more vegetables and like ML is talking about, chickpeas and such.

I think McDs may have crack in the pies, fries and shakes.:  :D

mine is a how to cook everything vegetarian cookbook. it's very good, and provides a lot of good instructions on basics. I like it because it isn't too specific - leaves it up to me to decide on quantities or types of veggies to use. I don't like following extremely specific recipes, I like to play it by ear a little bit.

    Yay! :hurray:

Yes, I still have a job :p...I just have Friday night off for, I think, the 1st or 2nd Friday night since I started that job at the end of Oct. I'll be there technically 4 months today since its the last day of February. :)

that doesn't look right...Febuary looks right

It's hard to work there and not eat the food.

I was happy to find out the other day that the fish in the filet-o-fish is now MSC certified, which means it is procured in a sustainable manner. not sure if that is just for Canada, or for the US too.

    eggs, are you a vegetarian?

Edit: I found out the other day that "rules" for the McD's that apply here apply for like anywhere in the US...and probably world wide, when I asked...

I asked that - and the mgrs looked at me as if I was speaking in a foreign language. I gotta watch my mouth. lol

Pescatarian, technically, I suppose. Which is a fancy way of saying I eat fish and dairy products, but not meat/poultry. I was a vegetarian for about 6 years, but have been eating fish for about a year now.

damnit. i forgot how to do it again. im getting old.

i have friends who are mostly vegetarian. they dont spurn meat, but at home they eat veggie, because they feel like shit when they eat meat. great people, and they are great at exposing us to awesome food and recipes.
i have given up mainstream meat. we switched to farm-raised, pastured, grass fed, etc etc. i can smell the difference, cooking meat from the regular grocery store makes me so nauseous. and it has no real flavor. i would rather not eat meat than eat that smelly stuff. i believe the nose knows.

i usually regret eating at mcdonalds. i always regret taco bell. cant do regular ground-meat stuff until i get a grinder attachment for my mixer. ground sirloin is delicious, but for burgers and meatloaf im sure i can make cheaper cuts work.

Lots of vegetarians will say "I don't eat anything with eyes!"

To which the response is almost always, "what about potatoes?!"
