i can see both sides of this story......kinda believe the sally ann....they didn't do things right but the aren't responsible in the end....what person on disability saves to buy tickets to a concert in order to donate.....not smart life management

he could have scalped the tix and donated 5-7 thousand dollars and maybe even enough to get his money back

going to a concert would prevent them from making it to the shelter before curfew...every shelter has a curfew except the very most horrible ones so going to paul means a night on the street..more i think about it the more i think it was a dumb donation

We use oil. The trick is not to let it get empty. (I'm just saying that lol) We get 100 gallons at a time for around $300, but that's average price. Also average is getting that once a month from fall through spring

The temp stays set on 69 degrees, so no we are not in an overly warm house.

I honestly cannot imagine living where temps get down like they do in Canada. That doesn't even seem real to me. How do you even breathe when you go outside? How does the wildlife live?!

    my goodness

Upstairs shower and toilet and outside faucet are frozen shut/open should I get a tool to crack them or is it better to wait for them to thaw on their own.

the dog is fine out there...he will bark to get i if he gets cold.....last night when i went to check theheat lamp on the coop i foud a hen stuck in the snow about 10 feet past the coop...she coo'd when i walked up and i put her back inside.....she must have wandered when i had the door open yesterday to feed and water them......

...so i went back iside and got the flashlight to check and make sure there were no more out there,,,did not see any....then an hour ago i look over at the coop and there is another hen about 20 feet away from the coop and she is perched on top of an old fence post....she was near froze solid so i brought her inside and heated her up.....she seems ok and is back in the coop.....dog was freaking last night and now i know why....he kept barking and when i opened the door to let him in he would just sit down and look at me....?

I am away from home weeks at a time and my cat is here. She can get in and out through a crawl space behind the tub and an opening I made in the back of the house. I left enough food and water for a couple months. Woman next door knocks and tells me to keep Polly in the house because its bitter out. Then this morning polly got out through the opening near the tub again. Lady comes back and asks me to keep her inside. Now Polly gained a visible 4 lbs and is a small cat to begin with. So I ask are you feeding her? She said yes.
Well no wonder she is hanging out at your door. If she couldn't find food she would be right back through that crawl space to get the stuff I left for her.

Just found out my neighbor died a few weeks ago. Her adult kids had been around a lot but I assumed they had the grand kids visiting grandma. Maybe cleaning out her things :(

Friend said every new car he has seen the battery dies on the 5th winter. This is the 5th winter I had the car. And it's hesitating a little. And the car was probly on the lot the winter before i bought it. I give it a 50/50 shot at making it to the summer.

lol...even I have enough sense to know that you'd bring that dog in before he was out there too long! :D I am surprised that any of the chickens would venture out of their coop. NOT that I credited them with high intelligence but goodnightalive I'd have thought they had that much self-survival instinct not to leave a warm sheltered place for a much colder unprotected environment.

I was thinking about other stuff - like the deer, or elk and stuff like that...also any birds. How the hell could a bird fly in that kind of cold much less find stuff to eat?! Maybe they all migrate to warmer environs...

It was below zero here today, and all I could do was think of the homeless cats out there, dogs tied to chains out there...and poor wildlife out there trying to find warmth and comfort. That is all I ever think about when it is this cold.
It is cold in here...and I put the thermostat to 80 and all it reads is 70 and below in here....kind of dangerous for my two little birds. when we lost power for many hours awhile ago....it was freezing in here.......and about a week later one of my little birds, only 2 years old, died.....and I had a bingo moment later on that that is what killed it, as these are tropical birds. My other bird survived. It must have been in better shape to begin with.

I had a fat cat about 20 years ago. Got out in one of the coldest weeks I have ever seen. Probly the coldest up to that point. She was missing for 2 weeks. Finally saw her under the house next door. She was skin and bones now. She wouldn' come to me, she was in some kind of survival mode. I put a can of cat food out for her. Came back less than 15 minutes later and it was frozen solid. Couple hours later I got her to come towards me and when I reached for her she ran back under the house. My mom had enough patience to sit out in that cold until pepper finally climbed into her arms.
