I also remember television sets lasting a while too. I've had my 50" plasma for 5 years now and I think it's about to give up on me. I never got the screen burn everyone talked about in the early 2000s, but the motor does sound strange and unfortunately it'll be easier to just go buy a new one than live without it for a few weeks.

 

if you treat your reefer right it will last 20yrs. space used proper-filled with water bottles if left empty, doors not left open, not near heat source-next to stove when people often put them, cleaned underneath, not jammed against a wall, interior vents free of obstruction..

 

my brand spankin new fridge failed in less than 6 months, needed a new compressor. good thing it was still under warranty. next time ill see if i can trade it to this appliance refurbisher my parents have gone to for years. they have a lot of old appliances, people bring them back, get them fixed up, just like new. i actually got way over excited about a corner full of wringer washers there. one day, one day. lol.

 

We got a new stainless steel fridge for our house and I don't particularly like the noise the motor makes when it starts working. :/

just got smacked by 35-40 mph winds. shits banging around, but i dont know what

edit to add- severe thunderstorm warning issued, hopefully we dont get any rotation. its early for this kind of weather. and the apple tree is about to bud, and we are supposed to have snow thursday. its going to hurt my willow too

warning includes "hazard-70 mph wind gusts"

and they seem to have changed their mind, that warning is missing now
